Oh dear me.....
This is an example that buying a book without reading other reviews is NOT a good idea... because if I would have read the reviews, I would certainly NOT have purchased this book. This book advocates training methods that are now widely understood to be backward, unnecessary and even cruel and I will be putting my copy in the bin.

Cruel training methods
If you love your retriever this book is not for you. The use of shock, pinch, and choke collars not to mention the ear pinch are all advocated here. The RSPCA is trying to ban these methods with good reason. How can giving a dog an electric shock make it enthusiastic? The methods suggested are 30 years out of date, gundog training need not be cruel in order to acheive good results, buy a different book.
