Should be in any roughshooters bookcase.
Working gundogs is for the serious beginner who one day would like to be able to call himself "handler". The book covers all aspects of dog handling from puppy to shooting companion. The focus of this book is on Retrivers and Spaniels but other types of dogs used for roughshooting will find it worth reading as well. It is well illustrated and offers a lot of information. I am only training my first dog but am sure that even experienced handlers can benefit from reading this book. It is written with a nice sense of humour and a very clear love of dogs and of working with them. "Working gundogs" can easily be read before, during and after you and your dog take on new classes or subjects. By describing the right way to go about the difficulties you and your dog might encounter, you will know how to recognise signs of danger. The fifth crown is missing as it would have been nice with an even more detailed describtion of how to fix the mistakes you make. This would especially have been useful for the first-time-handlers. However, if you read the book thoroughly enough before your sessions, you probably wont have any problems! All in all a highly recommendable book. And yes, do buy "advanced gundog training" by the same author as well. You will enjoy having a well trained dog (and your mates' admiration)and your dog will enjoy the training sessions.
