Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Phil Collins' fourth solo album, 1989's BUT SERIOUSLY, is the first solo release by the Genesis drummer after 1985's NOJACKET REQUIRED, the album which catapulted this oddly charming guy into a multimedia superstar with a budding film andtelevision career. As the title hints, BUT SERIOUSLY is a mature, thoughtful album, less giddy than the hit machine that was NO JACKET REQUIRED, and with a newfound sense of social commentary on songs like "Something Happened on the Way toHeaven" and the anti-homelessness single "Another Day in Paradise".
What saves BUT SERIOUSLY from incipient earnestness is Collins' usual sense of diffident offhandedness, andhis typically fine sense of pop songcraft. While BUT SERIOUSLY was not the worldbeater its predecessor was, it's a moresatisfying and long-lasting album.

Wonderful5
If it wasn't for this album, my eyes would not have been completely opened and Phil would be missing one of his most commited and loyal admirers! I first heard this album at the age of 11 (now nearly 21) and fell in love with every song on it practically. I can't find fault with it. 'Hang in long enough', 'That's just the way it is', 'Do you remember', 'Something happened on the way to heaven', 'Colours', 'I wish it would rain down', 'Another day in paradise', 'All of my life', 'Father to son', and especially my favourite 'Find a way to my heart' are all classics. There's such a wonderful jazz, soul and pop/rock influence with this album it caters for almost any music fan. It proves Phil as the underated genius that he truly is. Fantastic!!!

Astounding, polished to perfection5
This 4th solo album from Phil Collins, which was released in 1989 to commercial success, and its no wonder. Every song is exciting, and different from the last, and also more to the point, different to all other artists. Take the opener "Hang In Long Enough" - a song about overcoming obstacles in life, an up beat catchy song in just a few listens it's infectious! "Do You Remember" - a lovely sweet reminisance of good times with a lover. Colours, an 8 minute epic about the problems in Africa which is so unbelievably fast paced and catchy it's really hard to find someone who wouldn't like it if they heard it. We have the other well known classics "I Wish It Would Rain Down" and "Another Day In Paradise", to be truthful, no song on this album is filler every song is brilliant and Phil Collins singing is wonderfully powerful, yet at the same time delicate and thoughtful...A classic even non Phil Collins fanatics will enjoy this popular music...without the cheese.

Phil Collins at his best.....5
This album fails to fault. His 'Greatest hit' album features many of the songs from this album. The great bass and changing moods of today's pop, this artist compliments each area of modern day life in an album that is packed with great music which you can't help but play over and over again. He appeals to all ages and this album proves that, as both my son and I have this at the top of our record collections. In a nut-shell pure pop.. at its best!
