Dr Joyce Walker5
I note a previous reviewer commented that this would be a good book 'for teaching kids'. He misses the true value of this book - it teaches adults! Cartoons are useful in not only teaching history, but also the social mores and attitudes of the society which produced them. Books like Benson's '20th century' have great and intrinsic value in history, politics, international relations, sociology, language and literature etc. So much more than simply 'teaching kids' history. This book is to be commended to any student of any of these disciplines as a fine example of the analysis of the cartoonists' art.

Wonderful book4
To what many would seem like a strange type of book, for those interested in social history and is the type of person fascinated with the history of the last century then this is going to make an ideal book to buy. Whilst we've all sat down and watched films like Titanic, within the pages of this book, includes cartoons that appeared within the papers of the day that brought the aspect of the common man to the fore. A wonderful book to look through as well as one that will not only provide interest for the year of birth for those in the last century its something that I believe is going to be a wonderful tool for teaching history to kids and provide a wonderful social history for all.
