Customer Reviews
It's magic!
This book gives you a real feeling about what it's like to live on a Scottish hill farm. It takes you through the highs and the lows in an entertaining yet unsentimental style. It also documents a changing world, indeed a world which might not exist for much longer. This is a great book for those intersted in gaining an insight into the isolated lives of farmers who are struggling to cope with the ever-increasing demands of the politicians and the falling profits from their livestock. So is Tom Duncan just another moaning farmer? Quite the opposite: he accepts his lot and recognises that change is inevitable. He quotes Spike Milligan: "everyone's got to be somewhere". And there are a lot worse places to be than a Dumfriesshire hill farm.
A Wonderful Read
This is a really interesting book, which takes you right into the heart of the job. The trials and tribulations of looking after a hill farm are brought to you as if you were really there. Written well, interspersed with humour throughout. His love for the animals and the environment comes through right through the book.
Well done Tom!
