Not for Britten fans2
I went to original production of this delightful opera at Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, London, in early 50's with Shirley Eaton as a schoolgirl, in the cast,and still remember the songs for the audience -a wonderful,clever, involving idea.This is totally different; I thought I was watching wrong DVD at opening;this is mostly mimed(!), set in Eastern Europe and very unlike original opera! Things improve a little, but singing is second-rate, the dubbing is amateurish, to say the least,and definitely not for Britten lovers. Yet, there there seems to be no other DVD of this charming opera and that is sad. Brian
