Product Description

For communications professionals and amateurs, this text attempts to demystify two emerging and related technologies: ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) and ADSL (asymmetric digital signal line). These topics are given in-depth treatment including detailed analysis of their components and interrelationships. The technical concepts are presented using elementary engineering principles. The book is targeted at technicians, managers, professionals in marketing, manufacturing, purchasing and other support functions of telecommunications companies who need a fundamental grounding in ATM and ADSL. The companion CD contains RFCs, important foundations to understanding modern communications technology, and ATM Forum glossary.

Customer Reviews

Very disappointing if you want to learn about ADSL1
I bought this book expecting roughly 50:50 split between the number of pages about ATM and ADSL. Only about 10% of this book talks about ADSL! I got the impression that this guy has written a book about ATM, and realised that ADSL is a big thing and so tagged on a small section to allow him to write ADSL in the title! Simple concepts are explained in very 'long winded' ways - for example, he explains what the word asymmetric means in about 100 words! This is before he gets on to explain what it means in the context of telecommunications! If your're looking to learn about ADSL then I wouldn't recommend this book
