Beware print head failures...
Although Brother multi-function machines look good value, the dreaded error 41 will get you in the end. On these machines, the printhead is a separate unit from the colour cartridges, and eventually needs replacement after one year or eighteen months. The cost for this is way in excess of the original purchase price of the machine.

oh brother of mine
I've had this machine for about six weeks and still feel slightly disappointed with it. Although it looks alright (despite its enormous front to back length) and the fax features work as you might expect, I do think the answering machine part sounds very cheap - incoming callers hear a beep and a two second pause before the outgoing message kicks in. This allows the machine to identify the call as a fax or voice call, but I've never had a fax machine do this before.

Also the lcd display is too small for a quick glance... wouldn't you rather see a big clear lcd screen? And would a backlight be too much to ask? You might call this a mid-price machine, but with low-price features. Buy something else.
