Customer Reviews

Easy to setup and use5
This product is great. It is very easy to setup. I run XP and had it running very quickly.
The print quality is very good and being laser, I only need to change the cartridge once or twice a year. From experience I know this is much less frequent than inkjet. And being not much more expensive than inkjet cartridges it will save you money.
It's nice to have scanner, photocopier and printer all in one place.

Works well with Linux5
If you're a Linux user, don't be put off by some assessments and reviews -- this device works well and is incredibly easy to set up.

Before buying I looked up this product on the Linux Printing database and it said partially
supported. Undeterred I decided to get it based on positive reviews elsewhere and have found that, not only was it a breeze to set up under CUPS [much easier than with Windows XP] but also that it works really well. I'm very pleased with it.

Scanning under Linux is listed as 'not supported' on the xsane pages but again this is only part of the story. Downloading the relevant drivers from the Brother site (make sure you use brscan3 version) again provided full functionality under xsane and gimp. There is a nice extra feature - if you download the Brother utility (again make sure you use the versions numbered 3) you can scan to file, to image [gimp]... with a single button press -- great for the lazy :-)

I haven't had it long enough to comment on economy / toner usage -- but it can't be more expensive than my inkjet printer [now relegated firmly to colour only printing].
