Don't Believe The Hype!
We bought this 1 year ago, and it has generally worked fine until now, though battery life is poor and the range is nowhere close to 300m (more like 100m in my experience). The lullabys are pointless for us though the temperature gauge is very handy. However, the volume increase button on the parent unit has now broken after 11 months of use, so you can turn it down but not back up again. The parent unit is therefore stuck on the last lowest volume setting (luckily not zero!) but is effectively useless as we can't tune the volume depending on whether we are in the kitchen cooking or sitting in a quieter room. I have asked Amazon what they are prepared to do (it was ordered days more than 1 year ago) and wait with baited breath..... Not great as this was about the most expensive monitor we looked at. We may have just been unlucky but I would expect it to be more durable than this. It has been used carefully and packed in its case when we've travelled with it (on 3 occasions). It's a trip to the shops tomorrow, then, for a new monitor, as we can't do without a fully functioning one. Think carefully before spending so much (comparitively) when there are so many cheaper ones available.

UPDATE

After having a good moan at this monitor above I thought I'd post a belated update. I tried to get a replacement or refund but the retailer, popcorn uk, (bought it through the Amazon marketplace so Amazon directed me to them) were not very helpful, pushing the problem back to me to take up with Philips. Under consumer law your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer, as first recourse. As we couldn't function without a monitor while this was sent away for repair, I had to buy another. I spoke to popcorn uk about the issue, who said that, as the fault was reported just after a year after purchase then I was entitled to nothing from them. Fair enough in strict terms but, I made the point that £70ish is a little expensive for a monitor that only has a life expectancy of 1 year. In my opinion there was clearly an issue with regard to fitness for purpose. They pointed out that Philips give a 2 year warranty, and so walked away from the problem. I tried to point out the consumer contract issue but they seemed uninterested and said that as it was outside a year old then I would have to go to Philips direct. This was uneconomical as we needed another monitor in the interim anyway, and manufacturers will never offer a refund, only replacement or repair, so popcorn won their £70 and we lost it. And I hardly wanted 2 monitors. I asked popcorn if they were prepared to do anything as a good will gesture, and they were not. A little short sighted to me; it appears that they value their profit one a single purchase more than keeping customers happy and keep them coming back. Pushing the issue legally would have cost more than the monitor, so I just bought another one and chalked this one up to experience! I won't buy anything else from the same retailer. Customer service means a lot to me.

Bought a BT monitor from Boots as a replacement, which had given nearly 1 year of faithful service until the charger stopped working on the parent unit. Now, although it's 3 weeks under a year old, so the issue was different, Boots replaced it yesterday, no quibbles, 5 mins before closing time.

I was disappointed with the product and the service from the retailer. Check the retailer's policy on warranty before you buy.

Excellent Baby Monitor
I love this monitor. It comes with a travel case, which is very useful for us as we do alot of travelling. The only draw back is that the mobile unit battery doesn't last for that long. Other than that, I love it.

Philips Baby care monitor
A baby monitor is not a toy so for the boxes "how much fun it is" and "it'#s educational value" I've entered "1" - Amazon - a baby monitor is NOT a toy!

The monitor however is excellent and I highly recommend it.
