Not Tibetan
This disk contains a very Chinese Buhddist style of chanting. Tibetan it aint. However, it is in regular use by me and very popular with everyone that has heard it. The first track is ideal for Tai Chi
Disapointed
The third track is good but the first two made me feel like I was sitting in a chinese restaurant waiting for my meal.
Worth buying for the first track alone.
I first came across the chants on this CD in 1996 while working in Taipai, Taiwan. I visited several buddhist temples and in one of them heard the most amazing music which I subsequently bought in cassette form. Sadly I seem to have lost that one. Anyway I was sufficiently inspired by my purchase that I went in search of other similar cassettes being sold in the vicinity of the temples. One of the cassettes I bought was Om Mani Padme Hum and the other was a version of track 2 from this CD. I listened to the 2 cassettes a lot and found them very uplifting and spiritual even though I had no idea what the words meant. In time the cassettes found their way in to a storage box and remained there for almost 10 years. Then a couple of weeks ago I was having a clearout and came across the 2 cassettes again. I played them relentlessly and found them more uplifting than ever. I then vowed to find out what the words meant. With a little research on the Internet I came across this Tibetan Chants CD. To my utter delight, track 1 on the CD is the identical version of Om Mani Padem Hum to the cassette I bought in 1996. Amazingly track 2 on the CD is the same chant/prayer as my other cassette but sadly, in my opinion it is an inferior version. It is still uplifting but feels a little lightweight and lacking in passion compared to the version on my original cassette. That said I was still considering giving this CD 5 stars as the music is still excellent and even track 2 is still good. Track 1 is repetitive for sure but I never get tired of listening to it. It stirs something inside me every time I listen to it. I find it particularly useful for when I need a boost so carry it around with me everywhere on my IPOD.
