About the Author
As Senior Lecturer in the school of Construction Economics and Management at South Bank University, Dr Shamil Naoum is well-placed to write a book on the ins and outs of dissertation research and writing for construction students. Dr Naoum's own student days began in Baghdad, Iraq where he acquired a BSc in Building and Construction Engineering, before moving to England where he studied at Aston and Brunel University. Dr Naoum was awarded a PhD in Construction Management just before starting his current post. Dr Naoum has also worked extensively within the construction industry as a Resident Engineer, Project Manager, Planning Consultant and Project Management Consultant, so possesses a unique familiarity with both academic and professional processes in construction. He has published many articles and has presented numerous conference papers, but Dissertation Research and Writing for Construction Students is his only book - to date.

This book helped me to a dissertation score of 61% in less than 8 weeks!
Ok, like many students my attitude to the dissertation was "I'll start it later". Unfortunately later only really started to panic me one Christmas and the new year was out the way. All I had was a topic and a synopsis will a lowly C mark.

Instantly my mind was put at ease as I noted that the book explained all the chapters required in detail as well as how to write the literature review, structure questionnaires and write up your findings.

I bought this book to assist with my dissertation and I wasn't disappointed. This book is great for students of the built environment, a lot of people in my class have now also bought this book as it helps with all areas of the dissertation from how to choose a topic and title right through to research and how to write a good dissertation.
