Its Marmite! - Love it or hate it - BUT: Good spec and portable
As I wrote on a number of sites...I was looking for something simple and portable, as a personal carry about computer with casual gaming capability. This Laptop has so far fulfilled the brief very well. The PC is a shiny dark chocolate colour with the pleasing funky design overlaid. The bag matches well, but it only provides basic protection, comfort and functionality. The screen is shiny glass, but it's bright and has been easy to see in all lighting conditions with few bothersome reflections. Native resolution is fine for the 14.1" panel but a little low if you plan on using large external monitors. It was dead easy to transfer data and setting from my desktop machine to this laptop using Vista's in built tools. the 128MB dedicated Graphics card is backed up by the ability to share system memory. So far it has managed 3D games very nicely. 2x USBs worried me a bit - but not had a need for more so far. Anyway, Bluetooth gives good potential for device connectivity too. Keyboard is standard stuff, but the beige on chocolate letters so can be hard to see in dull lighting. Built in speakers sound clear and crisp, On-board HP software works well but is slow. When you fire up the quickplay menu or use the buttons it take a while to load up and pulls rank on the rest of the system. Touch-pad is smooth, shiny, Gold...Mmmmm and works as well as any other I've used. The illuminated touch sensitive media buttons are too easily engaged. Wipe your hand across them to clear a bit of dust and everything starts up!
