Yet another Chapter Begins.................4
UFO fans are truly the most loyal fans in rock. We've stuck by Phil and Pete through a myriad of problems. It's amazing that they can keep releasing good to great albums every time out. This is mature, muscular hard rock, played by professionals.
You Are Here features the Classic Mogg/Raymond/Way trio with newcomers Vinnie moore and Jason Bonham. The drum sound is great on this album, with Bonham sounding closer to the immortal Andy Parker than Aynsley did. Moore holds his own, and doesn't overpower the album. no question- the guy can play. Great leads abound. Paul Raymond doesn't get a lot of space on this album- hopefully next album will feature him more. He's so vital to the UFO sound. Album standouts include Daylight, Mr. Freeze, and Sympathy. This lineup will hopefully prove stable enough to endure a long world tour. It'd be great to see them finish a UK and US tour. I like this album a lot, after Covenant and ahead of Sharks, in terms of 21st century UFO. Well worth buying, and a GREAT car stereo album! I had the early release sent to Canada because I was so impatient to hear it. Rock on !

At last UFO returns with credibility.4
Ok,we all loved UFO with schenker or Chapman. But time moves on and here is UFO 2004. I'm a huge fan of this band and loved WALK ON WATER in '95. But lets be fair here, both releases that followed, COVENANT and SHARKS lacked songs, edge, had to many fillers, sounded forced/rushed and the production sounded flat. Luckily MOGG/WAY kept their integrity with two fine releases of their own, as well as MOGG'S brilliance on his side project for 2002, "SIGN OF 4", (check it out this overlooked release).

YOU ARE HERE has laid to rest any worries of life post Schenker. With MOGG/WAY/RAYMOND and new guys Vinnie MOORE and Jason BONHAM on board the sound is modern, fresh and certainly packs a punch sonically. UFO have rarely on record sounded so punchy, full and in your face. The drumming from Bonham is worthy of his name sake, a new guitarist, Vinnie Moore doesn't you'll be glad to know, just "shred". Its tasteful stuff indeed and MOGG continues to discover and bring to the fore great guitar talent.

The music itself is in places very UFO and others a new direction, to me its more Chapman era than Schenker. Translated that means more song friendly. There is even (I reckon) a single or two on here. If the album does suffer, then its only in its running order. The second half of this CD is brilliant and could have been better split up to change the pace. This is why one or two people perhaps haven't quite latched onto it immediately. I was the same, I wasn't sure at first. However, like all classic records, its the ones that take several spins for the listener to "get it" that have longevity.

YOU ARE HERE has well and truly hit home now. "Jello Man", "Mr Freeze", "Slipping Away","Sympathy","Baby Blue" and "Swallow" are all top notch UFO. Nothing on the last two CD's comes close. As already mentioned, if your a fan, this is more Chapman than Schenker, but some Schenkerisms are present. UFO again sound like a BAND, a solid unit of five musicians with something to bring to the table.

If you gave SHARKS and COVENANT the benefit of the doubt and were dissapointed, then do the same for YOU ARE HERE. Don't be put off by the fact Schenker has gone. This band is back on form. YOU ARE HERE, with your preconceptions of the previous releases thrown out the window may just surprise you. It may also knock you off your seat.

So why only 4 stars.........the next one will be an absolute belter.

Some young blood , but mostly older and a little wiser4
I hadn't listened to any new UFO material since the mid 80's so was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only were the old codgers still on the go, but that they had a new guitarist , a new drummer and had produced a new album that was worth checking out.

And it is a good album.
There are no instant classics on it to compare with their hey-day nor to be fair are any as good as the best tracks on 'Walk On Water'.
But as an overall offering it has a ring of quality to it.

The rhythm section of Way, Raymond and Bonham is excellent and Vinnie Moore is a fine guitarist (though not as inspired as Schenker at his best). The lyrics are ok, a bit clunky in places and few of the recurring themes from Phil Moggs canon make appearances (eg The Wild Ones) but they are enjoyable enough for the most part.

At this stage of their careers producing a 4-star album is a great achievement and I look forward to their next album in way that I haven't done for nigh on 20 years.
