Product Description

Eleventh studio album from the undisputed master of the six-string, Joe Satriani. An album based around the loose and seemingly disparate concepts of religion and robotics, the album is a rich, textured work which shows off Satriani's obvious talents to stunning effect. Includes the tracks 'Musterion', 'Overdriver' and 'I Just Wanna Rock'.

Customer Reviews

More substiantial work by Satriani3
I'm not a huge Satch fan. I don't even think he's THAT good a guitarist compared to some of his peers. More than one or two listens to Surfing With The Alien I find just boring.

What a refreshing change this is. OK, so Satch might not be demonstrating the technique that made him famous, but so what? If you want that, listen to just about all of his back catalog. For the record, I would argue that he still uses a lot technique on this album, frequently demonstrating his knowledge of the guitar. I suspect that because he isn't playing at warp speed, certain people have assumed that his playing has gone downhill. Far from it. Satchafunkilus is an altogether more musical album - dare I say it, deep even. When I first heard Revelation for example, I could scarcely believe it was Satriani.

Why 3 stars? Well, it's not that good. A little more showmanship from Satriani would have been better (although he does seem to have adopted his best guitar tone so far). It's also not that deep, compared to say the alternative rock genre. At times, it sounds old and cliched.

Nonetheless, a good effort.

An excellent album5
This album is a perfect complement to the album 'flying on a blue dream', and for those who have criticised it, I suggest that you go and listen to the whole of the 'flying on a blue dream' album, and then listen to this album. It shows that Satriani is caperble of breaking new ground whilst keeping in touch with his past, a definite success!

Great 5
I've been a fan since 'Surfing with the alien ' and his albums are always enjoyable and usually I listen a couple of times on my MP3 player before deleting . This one however is staying on along with 'Surfing' . It may just be me but I really enjoy this one and it gets better each time I listen . A nicely balanced collection .
