Multi-platinum selling US rock outfit Journey return with their thirteenth studio album and their first to feature the vocal talents of Philippine born Arnel Pineda. Customer Reviews
past, present and future
I have all Journey cd's but I did not know they had recruited a new singer. Honestly if you don't look at the cover you will be fooled into believing that Steve Perry has come back, at least for the first songs. Afterwards the new guy - Pineda - makes his mark and he is a jewel they must absolutely keep: he can really emulate Steve Perry, and brings life into the new songs. And the latter are perfect, seems the Schon/Cain duet has received a lot of inspiration from having this new singer, most of the new songs are really good.
The CD is organised roughly in a "one rock - one slow" song pattern, and it is just great, nothing more to say.
Journey is definitely back in top form, I just HOPE they come to Europe !
Outstanding Revelation
Classic Journey is the only way to describe this....Start to finish superb hooks/melodies/riffs/keyboards..soaring solos from Neal..Not going to compare these songs to past recordings as they have their own place in Journey history....Ive seen it with other bands (Kiss for example) where they can continue without important original members and Arnel is an excellent substitute for Steve...Mr Perry is always going to be the original crooner but Arnel has his own qualities...Classic AOR that Schon admits himself in the sleevenotes " we have something special here"(as in the band)..Welcome back guys and well done...If they dont crack the States again with this material I will buy the next album !!!!
Back to their best?
Confession time: Being a Journey fan from many years past, I thought they were a washed up, pale imitation of their once greatness.
Reverlation has made me realise how wrong I was, and how this can stand up against any previous era music from themselves (Journey helpfully provide a re-recorded hits CD within Revelation just for this purpose!).
It may not be pushing any boundries or reshaping their sound, but this is pure class.
