Customer Reviews
Superb follow on...then disaster
I remember back in 1982 dashing to the record store (yes vinyl in them days!) for the eagerly awaited follow up to the 2nd MSG album and the live offering One Night At Budokan...with Graham Bonnet from Rainbow on vocals!!!
What a pairing...I could even stand losing Cozy Powell from the line-up for this and I wasn't disappointed.
The title track hits you "straight between the eyes" pardon the pun...and then takes you into the heavy blues of "Rock You To The Ground" - which was really good live (even if it was Gary Barden on the tour).Track 3 "Dancer" is really commercial and a stab at the singles market as Graham Bonnet was commercially sought after at that time...but an "All Night Long" it wasn't and it was only sought out for the bonus track "Girl from Uptown" on the flip side.
Track 4 was "Samurai" very underrated and missed off all of MSG's 'best of' collections...and now on CD is a great prelude to the album's stand out track "Desert Song" (affectionaly known as the Camel Song) which is still in the set today.
The heavy riffing of "Broken Promises" combined with the up-tempo "Searching For A Reason" leads the listener into the instrumental "Ulcer" as the last track - which started the shows on the tour.
It is a pity that the remastering had only the Dancer b side to offer...but I don't think there was much more so it does not have the content of the other remastered discs but this was the start of something good but was not to last...the disaster at Sheffield singled the beginning of the end of MSG for me and I was glad when Michael returned to UFO.
