Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Coming nearly two decades into the band's long and amazingly prolific career, 1996's LIGHT USERS SYNDROME is an excellent example of The Fall's '90s work. Though unfortunately lacking the presence of Mark E. Smith's ex-wife Brix, who had briefly rejoined the band for this album's predecessor, CEREBRAL CAUSTIC, LIGHT USERS SYNDROME nevertheless maintains some of that album's guitar-pop-oriented vibe. It is a welcome return to form for the band after the more electronic releases of the early '90s. The opening "D.I.Y. Meat" is one of Smith's best songs in ages, an impassioned rant about vegetarianism and politics, while the album ending "Secession Man" slyly quotes the Kinks. LIGHT USERS SYNDROME is a worthwhile starting point for neophyte fans daunted by The Fall's prodigious output.
Customer Reviews
Great as ever.
Ignore the 'description' above Brix Smith IS on this album, in fact, shes standing next to Mark.E.Smith on the cover. I'm also not sure why that would be unfortunate if she wasn't on this (Spinetrak could've been left off). So the writer is a chump on both counts.
This is a decent Fall album with unusually clean production. Cheetham Hill should have been a hit single.....and its hilarious. DIY Meat is another one with great, funny lyrics. And tracks like Das Vulture Ans Ein Nutter Wain and He Pep are amazing intense tracks with bass riffs and synths respectively and MES shouting alot over the top. Overall the album has an electronic sound to it and Oleano and The Coliseum are practically dance tracks (but not quite). Its a challenging and entertaining listen as usual, well worth it.
