Customer Reviews
Great package of deep psyche
Loop were an uncompromising deep-psyche band of the late 1980s, a kind of Velvet-Underground-meets-Can with a shedload of effects thrown in.
This is one of four reissues which Loop founder Robert Hampson has recently put together. TWiYE was originally a compilation of early singles and other tracks, and this much-expanded version contains all the original material from the garage-punk of '16 Dreams' through to the blissed-out drone of 'Brittlehead Girl'. The classic Spinning, their catchiest number by far, is also of course present.
This reissue also includes all the tracks on the CD version of the later, controversial (in that the band didn't originally sanction it) compilation 'Dual'.
Additional material includes 3 different versions of the Arclite single, some live tracks, and a couple of tribute-LP numbers, for Nick Drake and Neil Young respectively.
These last two tracks sound like Robert knocked out them out quickly on his own under the Loop moniker, but hearing acoustic guitar played under the Loop name is a novelty in itself, and actually they're not bad after a couple of listens.
The whole thing is wonderfully packaged, with the three individual CD covers all replicating earlier Loop record covers.
So although not every track is a stand-out classic there's nothing less than 'very good', and the whole package more than justifies splashing out on this, whether you're a Loop completist or a beginner.
Re-mastered World in your Eyes
Absolutely amazing collection of remastered versions including their origional demo. So good it needs a government health warning.Have your ears blown out!
Cherry pick for the best results
There is some absolute qualtity on this CD, and some fluff: all the songs on the first two singles, collision, black sun, mother sky, arc lite, pink moon, brittle head girl, you can't go wrong with. They still sound great. Lets face it Spacemen 3 never got to this level, the use of reptition and effects is sublime in creating something quite brilliant. There is however a lot of cack on this CD. What on earth is Loop flesh? This is awful. The demo's you wonder why on.
