Customer Reviews
Very entertaining. But.......
First of all it has to be said that this DVD is not as the title suggests a history of Snooker but more of a summery of world championship finals between the 1970's and 2003 which is certainly not a bad thing though it would have been nice to have had a proper description of the game's origins. Unfortunately the early legends of the game such as Joe Davis, Fred Davis and John Pullman (the latter appearing in a very short clip from a holiday camp) are only briefly touched upon and there is no mention at all of the great Scottish player Walter Donaldson who was the first person to become world champion after the domination of Joe. Strangely there is far more attention given to Terry Griffith and his 79 win than to the combined achievements of Ray Reardon and John Spencer.
Those grumbles aside this is a really enjoyable piece of sporting nostalgia as many of the most memorable moments of Snooker are replayed such as Alex Higgins incredible clearance in the 82 semi-finals, the famous black ball game between Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis (Davis displaying rare frailties in the 80's), Joe Johnson's unexpected 86 win and the rise and rise of Stephen Hendry in the 90's. Ably narrated and presented by Clive Everton and Steve Davis this is an excellent release that will be extremely entertaining for fans of the green-baize game.
Great
I found this dvd to be great. It covers basically all the championships from its early days till 2003.The action is great and i still haven't had enough of watching it.This is one of my favourite dvds and something to really treasure.....if you are a snooker fan of course!!!!!!
Sam's review
This dvd shows some of the best parts from world championship finals, from the early days of Joe Davis up to when Mark Williams beat Ken Doherty in the final of the 2003 final. It also shows some of the best clearances from players such as Alex Higgins. The footage was good and well narrated by Clive Everton, and Steve Davis presented it well, the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because it did'nt show any footage from earlier rounds of the championships, which in my opinion can be better than the final itself. But overall it was very good, and definetly worth seeing for anyone who is intrested in Snooker.
