The PowerShot A470 offers a great value package without compromising on features. Available in four fun colours, it’s got everything your family needs to truly capture life’s special moments. Simply point and shoot for great results. New for 2008, Motion Detection Technology is included in PowerShot models for the first time. This clever technology helps to combat blur caused by movement such as the kids running around, or by camera-shake as you take a quick snapshot. |

PowerShot A470 Highlights |
![]() | 7.1 Megapixels The number of megapixels determines the amount of sharp detail a digital camera can record. With more megapixels, you can print at larger sizes, plus crop and enlarge without sacrificing quality. PowerShot cameras provide all the resolution you need for finely detailed, photo-quality prints with plenty of scope for post-shoot cropping. The 7.1 megapixel CCD captures an extraordinary level of detail. Enlarge and crop as far as your vision takes you - you'll have all the detail you need for sharp, rich prints. |
![]() | 3.4X Optical Zoom Get the shot you want with a powerful 3.4x Optical Zoom and genuine Canon optics. Not only does the zoom get you up close quickly, but Canon optical technology ensures that your shots are bright, clear, and alive with true, vivid color. |
![]() | 14 Shooting Modes Canon digital cameras feature a huge range of preset shooting modes to help you get the most from every shot. The numbers define how many modes are available. |
![]() | 2.5" LCD Screen The camera's 2.5-inch LCD screen gives you the big picture, whether you're shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This extra-durable, high-resolution screen with tough scratch-resistant coating on the anti-reflective, PureColor LCD II screen offers a crisp, clear picture to make shooting, playback and using the camera's menu functions especially convenient. |
![]() | Motion Detection Technology / High ISO/IS Canon’s Motion Detection Technology uses several methods to detect camera and subject movement and set exposure accordingly. The brightness of subject and background, movement of the subject (based on comparison of frames over time) Face Detection information and camera shake information from the optical Image Stabilizer (IS) gyros are all taken into account. Where motion is detected the camera automatically selects the appropriate ISO level to achieve a shot with minimal noise and zero blur. |
![]() | Face Detection Technology Utilising the power of DIGIC III, Canon’s Face Detection Technology ensures superb people shots by automatically detecting subjects in the frame and setting the correct focus, flash level and exposure. |

Good allrounder
I just recieved mine today and first impressions is that it is an attractive camera. The pictures are clear. But the camera itself is quite difficult to use as theres so many functions. Not having a black and white setting is a bit of a let down but you can easily download picasa 2 on google n edit your images on there. Its small enough to fit in your pocket or bag and is great for taking pictures with your friends. i suggest buying a 2GB memory card for it as they are so cheap now.
Its a really good buy and an excellent value for money, when i told everyone how cheap it wsa they were astonished. My dad bought a camera that was atleast twice as expensive and the only difference is that his is a bit thinner.
If your like me and just looking for a digital camera to take pictures of your friends and to take on days out then this is the best for your money. ( trust ive been searching for weeks)
Not Quite Ultra Compact but Great Pics
This isn't the slimmest or tiniest compact digital camera, but it's still easily pocketable (jacket, not shirt!) and for the price, produces great pics in a compact form. The screen is a good size and nice and bright and the extra bit on the zoom makes a difference - most of the competition stops at 3x. The colour choice allows a bit of personalisation.
There are an amazing number of presets, but you won't need most of them, and the most important ones are the most accessible. Anyone unused to digital cameras or who is a bit of a technophobe upgrading might find the menus a bit of a fiddle, but for most purposes, they won't be used much.
Pictures are bright and sharp with comparatively little distortion. Colours are bright and zingy - not quite true - but the bit of extra saturation makes them very attractive.
All in all, a bargain little camera.
