Product Description

Turok: Evolution is a prequel that takes us back to the origins of the Turok lineage. In the beginning of the game, we see our hero, Tal'Set, fighting his nemesis Captain Tobias Bruckner in 1886 Texas. During the battle, a rift between their world and the Lost Lands opens and Tal'Set is sucked into it.

Features and enhancements to this new installment in the Turok franchise include a ground-breaking Squad Dynamics System for realistic enemy and allied squad AI, and an entirely new game engine built to take full advantage of the next-generation hardware platforms. All-new weapons including Variable Payload Cruise Missiles, Gravity Disrupter Beams, and the Swarm Bore each have unique traits and damage. Flight sequences now enable players to soar through the skies on a winged Pteranodon, and scripted event sequences that bring the world to life with stunning detail.

There are 32 different types of prehistoric and indigenous life with frightening realism. The game is full of destructible objects and environments: shoot down trees onto enemies and collapse massive rock spires onto dinosaurs. The environments are lush living jungles: plants move as dinosaurs brush against them and trees sway in the wind. The game also features stealth and action based gameplay directed by context-sensitive, mission-based sequences. Great care has also been taken with the multiplayer modes, developed by a dedicated team of designers, programmers and artists.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Mixing first-person shooting action with suitably threatening creatures from the Jurassic past, Turok: Evolution is a welcome step forward in the franchise. Its secret? Nothing major, just that the developers have gone back to what made the series so fun in the first place. This latest sequel is a clear beneficiary of that decision.

Thus, the game's action returns to the Lost Lands, albeit with smarter visuals and some excellent, moody audio effects. The gameplay itself, while primarily action based, does reward occasional stealth, although more fun will be gleamed from the broadened arsenal of hardware and choosing when to use them. There's a lot to explore, and the enemy AI puts up a far harder fight than the game's predecessors, all of which count as sizeable marks in the plus column.

Turok: Evolution is no classic, though. Its levels are frequently a little too sprawling, and despite the generally enjoyable gameplay, a little more urgency wouldn't have gone amiss. That said, it's a title that's going to reward expectant fans of the franchise, and while it's not cutting edge stuff, Turok: Evolution does offer good value for money, and a challenging, lasting single player mode, with an equally enjoyable multi-player segment bolted on.

Bottom line: it's a flawed game, but still an entertaining one. And thanks to a generous smattering of levels, tight controls and a sizeable game world, there's enough on the disc to keep the player immersed for some time. --Simon Brew

Worth waiting for?2
It proudly states on the rear of the box that"..Every FPS fan will be taking a week off work..or words to that effect, what from, shock?
I've never played any of the other games and only got this as a 'free' gift for joining Special Reserve at the time,its'....okay.
Graphically it's all over the place, one nice water effect is seemingly at the expense of some ropey dinosaur skin or some plastic looking leaves, fairly good,at the time,Slegs mean rubber toy like alligators it goes on,bland textureless rocks, dodgy looking tunnels and then you meet the woman with the pteranodon or whatever it was!,I never had an N64 but I imagine she would look pretty similar,if not better!,on that.
The flying bits,Oh God! don't get me started, the controls aren't bad,but the meerest scrape against something sees you explode,it's like that bit in Top Secret when the slow moving Jeeps touch,I admit I had to skip a later flying section, one involving 'crystals' poking from the walls of a particularly narrow tunnel after 6 or more attempts.
I did persevere with it and did finish it albeit using the in-built cheats,it gets a bit hard later on as the checkpoints get sparse, and despite it's faults I do on ocassion fire it up to play the 'Mountain Ascent'level which is actually very good but on the whole it's disappointing,it's so obvious it WAS an N64 game and in my mind it still is one.

This is the best gamecube game ever. Its really fun Anyone should buy this game

Not bad FPS game4
This is a reasonably good FPS game. The weapons are fun to use and well thought out. The levels are split into reasonably sized chunks which don't take forever to complete (apart from the tough ones you have to play 10 times to complete). The scenery is attactive and interesting. Graphics are good apart from when you end up stood in the middle of bushes when it turns into a confused mess of crisscross blotchly leaves. Stealthy snipers and run and blast styles of play are both possible.

It's not as good as Halo on the X-box, but it is a reasonable game. Not as bad as some of the poor reviews make it out to be.
