Amazon.co.uk Review
Despite most gamers’ enduring affection for all things piratical a breakdown in the usual laws of licensing (which decrees that any movie with an explosion in it must be turned into a video game) has conspired to make this the first serious attempt to actually adapt the whole of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. To make up for lost time this actually tackles both Dead Man’s Chest and the new movie. In this sense the bloated narrative of the two Pirate sequels leaves just enough plot to stretch out for a single game.
Although you do get to control the other characters occasionally, most of the game is spent in the heavily swaying boots of Captain Jack Sparrow. This is a shame, not because the characters play exactly the same, but because their virtual likenesses are almost scarily realistic. In fact the game’s graphics as a whole are extraordinarily good, showing a level of effort and attention to detail that sadly isn’t really matched by the gameplay.
On a basic level this is exactly the sort of third-person action game you’d expect for a movie tie-in. As such there’s a smattering of very simple Prince of Persia style platforming and lots and lots of sword fighting. The latter actually seems a lot of fun at first, until you realise you’ve really only got one attack button that matters and jabbing that at random is enough to get you through most of the game. There is a separate fighting system for boss encounters, but this also seems to have a rather patronising opinion of the average player’s hand-to-eye co-ordination. Although, if not for the excellent graphics, that makes it no different than most other movie adaptations.

Pretty damn good for what it is
This is a surprisingly fun game, capturing the spirit of the films really well. The gameplay is extremely fun and it really captures the pantomine and over the top nature of the fighting in the films which is a delight to see on a videogame - most hack'n slash games based on films don't often match their counterparts too well. The graphics do the job and the two minigames - Pirate dice and poker - are very addicitve and a great way to waste some time during the madness of a level.
The controls for the wii work very well, responsive and easy to use. The gameplay is pretty straight forward but the Jackanisms and interactive cut scenes are a unique feature of this game. The graphics do their job in delivering a game that pleases the eye for the capabilities of the wii - personally I prefer that the gameplay is better. I don't mind that the voice acting isn't all there - very few of the actors are in it. It's got Johnny Depp so I'm happy! The only bad point I'd make about this game is that it could be improved with some scenes from the films to help meld it all together. The story does seem to be a little short - I only got it today and have finished the story of the second film in a couple of hours. However, I do need to go back for all the sub-missions I missed, of which there are plenty and aren't too arbritary. A definite must buy, unless you're too serious a gamer and want an endlessly long story, with HD graphics, serious gameplay...
very average
disappointed is how i feel about this game. i was expecting magical things from this game on the wii, but my excitement was struck down within 30 minutes of playing. thats all it took for me to see that this game is very repetitive and not what i was lead to believe it would be.
the controls aren't as sensetive as you are told they would be. new combos and different attacks are hard to pull off. you'll find yourself swinging the controller in lots of different ways, but all you'll see is the same move over and over again.
fighting in the game never changes. you're nearly always fighting 3 guys at once. they all attack at the same time and from different angles. its near impossible defeating them all without getting hit once. if you don't have health on you you won't last long.
another annoying part of the game is that there are cut scenes that lead onto a part where you have to hit a certain button, or swing the controller a certain way at a precise moment. i dont mind parts like this in games, but in POTC if you make one wrong motion, or push the wrong button you're sent back to the start of the cut scene that you have to watch before you can do that part again (no room for errors). you can't skip the cut scene, so you can imagine how annoying it is when you have to watch it over and over again.
these are just a few of the bad points of this game and i have to say that the bad out ways the good.
this game is very repetitive which makes it pretty boring. i would say spend your money on another game, as this one isn't worth the money.
A really poor atempt of a "game",

GRAPHICS- 4/10
Very unrealistic
STORYLINE- 6/10
I can't really give it a lower score as I only got 1/4 through the game and decided to give up as it was extremely boring.
CONTROLS- 1/10
When buying this game I thought I would be able to swing the remote around and kill people but you have to press buttons. No movements involved at all.
GAME OVERALL- 2/10
Very boring and they could have made it a lot better.
