Go for a Wusthof - its a classic
You've seen the kitchens, seen their knife blocks, drool at the elegance and professional authority they exude. Well now its your time, you want to upgrade and get the best, once in a lifetime purchase. Without doubt, Wusthof blades. The balance of each knife in the hand is pure joy - you've never realised using the Cook's knife during preparation and cooking can be such a joy. The Bread knife is another. This make is steeped in German history and are fanatics at blade making. All pro blades are one piece from tip to butt end of the handle - these Classics are so. Any knife not one piece isn't worth using in a kitchen. Go for the basic tried and proven set and you can add items in the future. Ensure the block can accomodate future additions. The 30cm+ Cook knife is a must in any set. A small paring knife is the next must have. You will fall in love with your set and will want to add and add to it. Better than best buy really as these knifes give you feedback at the level that make them must haves in any kitchen worth its salt in years and years of good home cooking. Highly Recommended.
