    superb device for mobile computing5
Have had mine (the Windows flavour) for a month now and am really pleased.

Its quite robust, has a very clear, readable screen with no glare even in daylight. The keyboard is the largest I've seen on a netbook and is quiet and responsive. I agree with the previous comment about trackpad sensitivity. Its easy to brush against when typing but the two-finger operation is a superb addition.

The wifi connection is very stable but I haven't tested the Bluetooth aspect yet.

I've heard some complaints about the weight of the machine. The battery is quite chunky too. But neither are excessive in my opinion.

A nice to have feature would have been a built in 3G/SIM or broadband modem which I've seen on some netbooks recently. But this is being picky.

Overall I'm really pleased with the device. Its so easy to sling into a rucksack and carry anywhere and use with wifi or bluetooth. Oh and it looks quite stylish too. A great product and a great price.

    Great little machine5
I've had mine for 4 months now and I'm still very happy and continue to be impressed with this machine. I needed the Windows XP version as I wanted to run specific software on it. It can handle everything that my bigger laptop and desktop computers can handle, and I have not felt the need to upgrade the RAM on the netbook yet. The keyboard is excellent, the trackpad works well (although initially it felt super-sensitive, but it was just a question of getting used to it). I particularly love the feature where you can scroll web pages by just dragging two fingers over the trackpad. The WIFI also connects up very quickly. The battery power has never lasted the advertised 7 hours, but it lasted more than 4 hours on any occasion, which was just fine for my journeys. My only gripe, and it is a minor one, is about the somewhat rigid trackpad buttons (for left and right mouse-clicks) which make a loud noise. They softened up over time but not enough still. However, I wouldn't deduct a star for such a small thing, considering all the other advantages of full laptop-functionality in an incredibly portable and well-built machine.

    Nice machine - but i got a duff one3
I have been using this machine for about three months now, and it's exactly what I need. However, as delivered it had very poor WiFi range and every time I picked it up it crashed! I eventually discovered that the WiFi antenna wasn't plugged into its socket on the PCB, and there was a small piece of loose screening foil on the interior of the underside access lid that made intermittent contact with the circuit board conductors when the case flexed very slightly - as it does if you pick it up by one corner.
Now, i've got better than average WiFi sensitivity and a rock-steady netbook that never crashes.
I doubt if most users would have bothered to sort these things out, and frankly I'd advise anyone who found their machine unsatisfactory to bang it straight back until Asus get the QC message.

I'm running mine with the eeepc Ubuntu operating system, which I prefer to anything this machine ships with. It's a shame that Asus don't ship with it preloaded. I have a spare battery, and that gives me a full working day without mains power, and a charger that lets me charge the spare away from the PC while the PC is in use on battery power. It's great. For sheer practicality in a small machine, I'd recommend it any day. I have an eyesight problem, but the bright display is perfectly legible, though I do choose to use a larger cursor than standard for the mouse pointer.
