You can either use it with the library of over 15 books including popular characters such as Dora the Explorer, The Wiggles and SpongeBob SquarePants or use the platform as an interactive phonics bus. When the book is removed, children can explore letter names and sounds by touching the letters printed on the bus. There are two fun letter games and The Wheels on the Bus song built right into the platform.

Not at all durable
To start let me say that my daughter adored this toy, she loved it so much that I went and bought her extra books for it. My son had his Nintendo DS and my daughter called her LeapPad her DS.
The reason I gave it 3 stars is after about 2 months the batteries started to run down, so i replaced them, it switched on and then just died.
I tried other batteries in it nothing worked. I checked all the batteries with a battery tester and they were all fine.
I now know of 3 other people who say there's lasted anywhere between 2 and 5 months.
I was obviously heavily disappointed that this died when the batteries ran down, and actually considered buying another one (I decided against it in the end).
As long as it's working this is a great toy, and I'm not claiming that they're all going to be the same, perhaps my friends and I were just unlucky. What I am saying is just be careful incase this is a universal flaw.
It would be useful to hear feedback from others whose 'My First LeapPad' has, perhaps, worked for a good amount of time.
I would still like another one of these for my daughter but I don't want to fork out another £30 to find the next one goes the same way.
Oh, I did eventually open the unit up, convinced there must be a loose connection somewhere, but everything was as it should have been.
I'd be really interested to see other people's reviews of this toy, good or bad.

Looks good but very disappointed
Looks good but intermittantly kept failing to turn on.
Tried lots of new batteries but no luck.
Same day it eventually failed to work at all.
Awaiting replacement item.

LeapFrog My First LeapPad
I purchased this product on the recommendation of a friend, who has a daughter aged 4 1/2 yrs. My 3 yr old thoroughly enjoys it - she loves Thomas the tank engine. You purchase books that provide interactive responses when touched by the wand and there are also games on each page - The wand interface is very responsive and the interactive games on each page of the book are engaging and educational (Colours, numbers, etc.). My daughter has taken to this system - I've bought some of the books for the system. The prices can vary quite alot so check around. Overall, I'm very impressed and I would recommend it.
