Fun, but useless. How To Change Batteries clue3
It drove me mad trying to find out how to put the batteries in this, basically you pull the cap off the slider and there is a screw underneath. Undoing this lets you pull the assembly out of the top and the cover for the battery compartment is in there. Only took me 2 days haha.
As for the screwdriver itself. Well it doesn't actually "do " anything, just looks like the real thing and sounds like the real thing. Come on what did you expect?!? Fun but disposable

I'm The Doctor5
This Sonic Screwdriver is just fantastic. It has good sounds, I believe it to be quite hard to break, unless you throw it on a concrete floor or something.
I got mine on Christmas Day and I'm still using it now which is the 28th December. It's just awesome to go around, flash your Screwdriver about and pretend your The Doctor. This is the reason I gave the toy's fun rating 5 stars because it is fun, a lot of fun.
In a way it is educational because if your pretending to be The Doctor you might say things what he says like 'I just need to seal up this cross dimensional spacial transfervance' or something similar that has really big words in and then the child playing with the Sonic Screwdriver might think 'I wonder what those words mean and then they might look them up evan though the words probaly aren't in the English dictionary but there'll still be saying big words.
I rate it 5 for durable because it moves up and down to make it look a tiny bit longer. Isn't that just awesome.
As I saw on another review of this Sonic Screwdriver, putting the batteries in can be a slight pain in the crevice however this shouldn't put you off buying this amazing item. Once you know how to put the batteries in once it should just stick in your mind. I don't know where the batteries go because I got my younger brother to put the batteries in mine and I still have to ask him how he did it.
Overall 1,000,000 out of 1,000,000. This is the perfect gift for a young person who is a massive fan of Doctor Who and it's even a massive gift for older people aswell. For instance I'm 18 and I love it. A definate must buy.

Very good for the price5
Since this toy is so much cheaper than other Doctor Who merchandise, I was expecting that it might be a bit cheap & nasty, but in fact it's very good for the price. The screwdriver is a very light but pretty durable plastic that will withstand a fair amount of abuse from children. The sound effect it makes is pleasingly close to the noise of the 'real' sonic screwdriver on TV.

The light is surprisingly bright- if you shine it straight into your own eyes it does hurt. (Why did I try this? I'm not sure. But you live and learn.)

The sonic pen isn't anything to write home about, just a little extra on top of the screwdriver really. It's basic and cheaper-looking than the screwdriver, but if you're buying this for your child, you might well keep the pen for yourself, just for the novelty.

Check the other review by "70s rock fan" for help with getting the batteries loaded- it's surprisingly complicated, you'll need a screwdriver to do it (a real one) and there are no loading instructions with it. But once the batteries are in, your kids will love it, and secretly, so will you.
