Buffalo 500GB Ministation
Just upgraded to this model from a previous Buffalo Drive and couldn't be happier, the transfer rate is quicker than anything else I have used, totally powered by the USB cable so no bulky power supply, shock proof and all for under £100. I especially like the new cable tidy they include as it is such a pain trying to find the cable in a bag to connect the drive when you are on an airplane, with this drive the cable is strung round the drive and never gets lost. Overall i'd rate this as the best value for money and best performing portable drive I have seen.

just bought one of these and the image doesn't do it justice - it has a really dark black matt finish,top quality feel to the product and I do believe that it is shock proof as well! The best feature is the wrap around USB cable - most other portable drives have a separate detachable USB cable which always gets lost - the clever people at Buffalo have permantly attached the cable ( very securely ) and the cable wraps around the drive with the USB connection locking it all together in a neat package - buffalo's wrap around cable management system should be on all portablr HDD's - would recommend this over all other drives 100 %

No probs whatsoever - not the most stylish - but so what?
I have two of these drives now, and in the past I have owned external self-powered drives by IOMEGA and Western Digital. The plus points of this drive are:

- Great capacity / price ratio
- Fast data transfer
- Plastic used on case doesn't scuff up easily (unlike the shinier WD Passport drives)
- The USB cable store is a good idea, if not perfectly executed

My only criticism is that its not the prettiest thing to look at, but when all's said and done, there's probably far too much focus on sleekness and looks in electronics; there are more important things than how aesthetically well-designed a hard drive is. I would happily recommend these to anyone.
