Expensive alternative
The good thing about this teleconverter is that if fits like a globe and is easy to handle to gget in and out.
The problem is that ONLY works well with canon L series lenses and if you use anything less you will need to use MF , if you are lucky .The pictures will suffer from camera shake and they will come out dark ( unless one is fortunate witht the light ).
Is best to invest in a profer telephoto lens than to rely on teleconverters unless you are on a very long treck and you can't carry your biggest telephoto.
If you have to choose between the 1.4 and the 2* ,I would much prefer the 1.4.
Don't get me started with the price....
Last resort
I own this and the Canon 1.4x.
The 1.4x works very well with the Canon 500mm f4 but I only use the 2x as a last resort for that record shot.I cannot seem to achieve the sharpness I need for bird photos with the 2x
