Manufacturer's Description
This durable Max Value hard drive enclosure is perfectly suited for all your storage needs, it is lightweight and very portable. It is an ideal way of adding a back up source with a separate power supply from the connected computer. It’s a simple and cheap approach to hot swapping aswell as plug and play.

Any capacity size of PATA (Parallel ATA/IDE) or SATA (Serial ATA) Hard Drive is supported and connects a 2.5” PATA/SATA hard disk drive to Hi Speed USB 2.0 or SATA hard disk drive to eSATA. (eSATA to IDE is not supported)

Some other benefits of using an external hard drive enclosure are, adding additional storage space and media types to small form factor and laptop computers, transferring data between non-networked computers, adding more drives to any given server or workstation than their chassis can hold, recovering the data from a broken or damaged computer, lower the cost of removable storage by reusing hardware designed for internal use, also because they are portable devices they can be stored securely under lock and key since they are not inside the computer case.

This case includes a stand to stand the enclosure upright, an eSATA cable and a USB data cable.

Nice look and feel - but..3
The look and feel of the enclosure was very nice, however on trying to access the enclosure to inset the drive I had issues with one of the screws being either mis-threaded or faulty.

Once i finally got the screw out, there is a very limited space for you to place your hdd into the caddy. There are 2 rails with a short support to resest the drive on. I found that even with the 4 screws done tightly there the drive could rattle if moved against the sides. why they didnt just put a little more support under it instead of stopping half way is beyond me.

Also the activity light cable is really badly thought out. because it is on the opposite side there is a long cable which runs down one side of the caddy, unfortunatly the glue on mine wasnt working and the cable was loose, trying to get the caddy back in was a nightmare as the cable would not stay in the track made for it and kept jamming.

On the workings I tested both Sata drive and Pata drives, and the USB and the esata functionality. All worked perfectly and fast with no problems whatsoever.

I was really dissapointed as this is just what i was looking for but its design quality has let it down. I returned the item back to Amazon.

    Good item, highly recommended.5
Decided to buy this item and combine it with an old 80gig hard-drive that I had lying around to be used backup drive for my ASUS eee-PC (also bought from Amazon).

The caddy looks nice, the shiny aluminium matches the styling of my laptop very well, which is a bonus.

Opened the unit, connected up my IDE(PATA) hard-drive and put it all back together in less that 5 minutes. Very easy, although squeezing the cables in requires a bit of care.

Hooked it up to the power supply and plugged it into my laptop (running XP) which instantly recognised it, no problems at all. The power light a nice blue colour, flashes purple during data access.

Temperature and noise are at a minimum, although I guess that does depend on the type/brand of hard-drive you're using.

Great product for its price. Highly recommended.

    Good idea, bad execution.2
I agree with the earlier review in that the external case is too small. By the time I'd got the drive inside and managed to shift the cables around so I could close the case..and found the sharp metal edge, the PC could not 'see' the drive either as USB 2.0 or through eSata.

Annoyingly the case comes set up for IDE drives, meaning you have to swap the power connector and ideally remove the IDE connector before you can add a SATA drive and then get the case to close.

    Not recommended.
