Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Goku and the Z-Warriors return with the biggest line-up of fighters ever seen in a beat ‘em-up, with more than 120 different playable characters and massive four player battles for them to compete in.

The lowdown:
There’s so many Dragon Ball Z game around at the moment it’s easy to get confused with which is which. This isn’t actually anything to do with the Budokai series (the game’s called Sparking! Neo in Japan) but instead has a much greater emphasis on 3D movement in much larger and more interactive environments. The new levels are twice as big as the first game, making flight even more important than before, and allowing for a much less restrictive camera. The game allows you to recreate a huge number of specific moments from the show and in that sense is fare more realistic than the more ground based Budokai and Super Dragon Ball Z games.

Most exciting moment:
For fans the most important feature in the game is the ability to trigger character transformations and fusions mid-game. Not only is this more in keeping with the battles from the cartoon but it also adds a welcome strategic element to the gameplay, as you switch forms and take on a completely new set of abilities and moves.

Since you ask:
It’d take quite a bit of space to list all the characters but they include every character that’s ever been in a Dragon Ball Z video game before. There are also new additions including Android 13, Tapion, Metal Cooler, Pikkon, Sauzer, Zanya, Yajirobe and Cui and Pan and Ub from Dragon Ball GT.

The bottom line:
The biggest Dragon Ball Z game yet is a wet dream for anime fans.-HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 takes the acrobatic and intense 3D flying and fighting dynamic made popular in last year's blockbuster and takes it to a whole new level with exciting new features. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 combines lightning-fast fighting, action and light RPG gameplay elements to give players the power to engage in titanic battles with a staggering roster of over 100 DBZ heroes and villains. Players can recreate some of the storied confrontations from the TV show, or they can create all-new showdowns of their own with characters that never actually fought in the animated series. The game also features an improved camera system, explosive environmental damage and in-game transformations.

In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, all DBZ skills and abilities are intact including: free flight, range, and melee attacks. With over 100 DBZ warriors, the game offers players an action-packed single-player mode complete with missions and side quests culminating in some of the most high energy boss confrontations ever.

5th in the Budokai series, Tenkaichi 2 keep's all the excitement of the Japanese animation by allowing players to move around the 3D-field freely and feel the exact sensation of the original comic through the e-Battle! Tenkaichi 2 now offers the player more action, more transformations, more freedom, more characters which all adds up to a MORE complete DBZ experience.

Customer Reviews

Best anime game around5
I was reluctant to buy this as based on the videos I had seen it wasn't that good. However after my first few matches I was hooked. The game reflects the show perfectly from what I can remember.

AUDIO:
Accurate from the shows and it really does add to it. At first I had my radio on and thought the whole thing was subtitled but it is not. The voices are, I think, supplied by the same people who did the voice overs for the shows. The only problem with it is that it is not quite in sync ewith the lips as I think they are in Japanese (don't quote me though). The moves all have the same sound effects as the show and it brings back so many memories.
SCORE: 23/25

GRAPHICS:
I am not really a fan of cell shading, especially when the surrounding environments are not cell shaded, it just looks stupid in my opinion. This works though for some reason. Also due to the fact that the characters are cartoons, it does look good and is the only way it could have been done. All of the characters look like they should aswell which is brilliant.
SCORE: 20/25

GAMEPLAY:
I know the shows only really used punch, kick and KI moves but I would have thought that there would have been more than about 10 basic moves for each person. It is incredibly simple to do huge amount of damages without reall working for it. Simply hit square a few times, then hold it down so you get some distance between the pair of you and then hold L2 and pres triangle. A massive amount of damage without trying. I would have thought that fighting the computer as a level 52 opponent would have been hard with a level 8 character. No, follow the steps I said and it is easy.
SCORE: 19/25

LIFESPAN:
This game is simply huge. A fifty hour story mode (covering most if not all of the dragonball heritage) that allows to fight nearly every fight seen in the shows, a few you don't get to, they are simply cutscenes. You also have to unlock a ton of stuff to add on and make the characters better. All of which makes the story huge and if you liked the series thoroughly enjoyable. There are also nine different modes including lots of tournaments such as the cell games and the world tournament to compete in. There are also 75 different characters in over 100 forms which adds to the sheer size of the game. My only gripe is that because of the size of what is included the arenas are limtied to a certain size. You can boot your opponent so many times so that they end up at the end of the arena, then they get stuck there until you boot them away again (which is tough sometimes) or until they attack you.
SCORE: 24/25

Overall Score: 86/100.

If you want a decent beat 'em up that doesn't require much effort buy this game. If you want a more complex fighter with a lot skill involved then buy Tekken or another game along those lines.

the best dragonball z game ever!!!5
I own this game and personally i have to say it is very good and extremely cool, there are a lot more characters than previous dbz games and there are even new forms! Also the AI's are sometimes hard to beat and there is even a few hidden storylines which you can unlock in various ways. I found this game really brilliant and worthy of a five-star rating for fun and overall, i definetely believe this is the best dbz game of all time!

Much better than it's predecessor5
The chances are, if you're looking at this game then you know about DBZ and have quite possibly played any of the previous games.

We all know how much of a dissapointment Tenkaichi 1 was and the developers have done a great job of adding new features to this game to make it what we originally expected. Although this games core mechanics are essentially the same, there are so many 'little' things that work together to make the game great.

The gameplay is very familiar. There are new melee moves you can do which do add a lot more variety. Most of the characters have individual moves now as opposed to last year and they all look a lot better too. IGT's have been added and give more variety. Arenas are bigger, although not as big as some people may say (perfectly big enough though). Story mode has new features, but isn't as special as it was hoped to be. Plenty of good new characters added including Pikkon and Super 13. Other Modes have been given more depth. Character customisation is a lot more like Budokai 3 now which is pretty good.

The voice overs for this game are good for the most part, except some of the less important characters don't have the correct voices which sounds a bit weird. The music is pretty poor as always, although slighty improves on Tenkaichi 1 (just turn it off and play your own).

Overall, Tenkaichi 2 is what the first should of been. All the things the fans wanted are here. 120 characters, 15 destructable arenas, character customisation, alternate costumes, tag team/team battles, better graphics, better moves, bigger arenas, 'free roam' story mode, In game transformations and everything else you can think of.

There is lots to complete and collect... will last much longer than the last game. I really reccomend this game to dbz fans and even any general fighting game fans (as long as you don't mind being puzzled by the uninformative story and some of the game's 'younger audience moments').
