Great little external dvd-rom
I bought this as I didnt realise notebooks dont come with dvd-rom or cd-rom (Doh!). I dont think I couldve picked a better product. The product itself is very stylish and operates very smoothly, although does product a little vibration (not noticable on hard surface but on soft surfaces you can feel it, like on the sofa). I would have given this a 5* but for the cable, its way too short. It has a double split on the usb end for extra power (you plug into two usb ports, the trouble with this is the ports need to be next to eachother on the notebook and mine isnt). Mine worked fine with using 1 usb port and that was important as I didnt want a dvd-rom drive I had to plug in with its own power supply. Overall I can recommend this product if like me you are after a great little stylish external dvd-rom drive for your notebook.
Does what it says on the box
Bought this to go with a Samsunf NC20 running XP
Got it running and playing CDs in two minutes
Attaches with a Y USB cable that takes 2 ports but is not a problem for me as I do not use a mouse.
The discovered that the XP does not have the codec for DVDs.
Loaded up the software that came with the palyer and it took forever.
Then when I wnet to paly the DVDS on PowerDVD it says it does not have the Dolby sound and you have to pay extra.
This is pants.
Had to dinstall the PowerDVD and load to Media Player Classic which is free from the Internet and had the codecs included.
Basically wasted an hour of my life.
Works fine now (for over a month) excpet that the mini USB at the Player end can come lose without you realizing it.
L G GP08nu20 external CD/DVD writer
My DVD writer in my laptop, has stareted to produce some problems, so I decided to purchase the LG gp08nu20 slimline external DVD writer.
I think it's fantastic. Write speed is good; it very quiet; very well built; that sound of quality as one closes the draw. As yet, I have not used the Cd option, but I don't expect any problem there.
The USB lead is shorter than my external hard drive, but I personally have no problem with the shorter lead.
At first, I did not install the LG disc, but the computer reconized the the LG with no problems.
when the disc was installed, I felt that I had struck gold, beacause the programe is very simular to the Acer programe, which I have missed.
Do I recomend this item? A big yes.
Roger Suitters.
