At last, a dog-proof kitchen bin!
I bought the cream-coloured version of this item recently from my local B&Q for £35 (£59 on the Simplehuman website). Had it just over a week, and so far my dog (a fairly large beast) has failed to tip it over or extract anything from it. Not only that, but he doesn't even seem interested in doing so!

My previous kitchen bin was a cheap plastic swing bin, which was raided and/or tipped over so often that I ended up putting it in the hallway overnight and during the day when I went out.

This bin seems a less tempting prospect, I think this is due to a couple of things - the lid closes completely so less smell to attract the dog, and also the liner bag doesn't hang over the sides as with the previous bin, so nothing for the dog to grab hold of.

Of course, the lockable lid was a big selling point for me as well - a simple concept but still an uncommon one to my knowledge. Having said that, I must confess that I hardly ever remember to lock the bin when the dog is left unattended, but as already stated he seems far less interested in this bin and its contents in any event.

I would certainly recommend this bin to anybody who's fed up with clearing up after their dog's latest bin-raiding exploits!

As an aside, my bin came with a sample pack of 3 Simplehuman 'Sure-fit' liners, which indeed are a much better fit than the traditional 50l bin bags, and not ridiculously expensive as such gimmicks often are!

Disappointed dog
Millie is a 7 year old rescue labrador and skilled bin raider. The lid lock bin has defeated her. No more mess on the kitchen floor. A brilliant product.

Dog-proof bin
After going through 5 different bins in my kitchen, and giving away a VERY expensive Brabantia bin to my brother, I read the review for the Simplehuman bin and decided it was my last hope for puppy-proof rubbish.
It arrived quickly, a good solid piece of equipment and so far it has completely foiled the dog. In fact he hasn't even attempted to get into it. With the bin comes some freebie liners but I have also used ordinary supermarket ones which work just as well.

Definitely recommend this product for anybody who is fed up coming into a kitchen covered in rubbish and having to pay expensive vet bills to cure a dog that's got a dose of pancreatitis through eating raw chilli!!!
