Fantastic Read....
Maaaannnnn, I tried to resist writing this review as I didn't want to be seen as a Colin Channer groupie .. ( LOL)...BUT, This book truly is a modern Caribbean masterpiece.I literally couldn't put it down. Channer's fictional Island reminded me too much of Montserrat, an Island where I spent many a Summer with my Great-Aunt Georgette ( I developed my fear of big lizards there too!). The individual journeys of each of the characters are so very well developed and so ...personal in that I can feel a bit of 'someone back home' in all of them :-)
This is a must read for those of you who truly appreciate Caribbean writing which breaks the mold, shatters stereotypes and isn't afraid to 'go there' .
Stay a bit longer
Once again another triumph by Colin Channer. I must admit I have only read Waiting in Vain and now Passing Through...Satisfy My Soul has passed me by but I WILL get my hands on it. My dad gave me Passing Through as some 'travel reading', as I left sunny Barbados for gloomy England. I to pick about 2 weeks to pick up the book and it has been with mixed emotions....I am sad I finished reading it because now the Caribbean seems a distant memory to me...I am happy I was able to engage with all the characters and even get a glimpse of Bob Marley, before he blew up! I loved this book and I passed it on to a friend already...who's comments so far are 'This book is WOW' (and he's a non-reader) so imagine...don't hesitate now....buy this book...
