Customer Reviews
Surpassed my expectations
I'm no expert in home espresso machines or any other type of coffee machine but I do know that I love the coffee from the likes of Costa coffee or Starbucks or the Italian coffee shop down the road from where I work and I like lattes, espressos and cappuccinos from any of them especially Costa.
And I find that this little Delongi EC11 makes coffee that easily matches any high street coffee shop with its 11 bar pressure producing creamy espresso and wonderfully fluffy and creamy frothy milk.
I have had the EC11 for a month now and am as you can tell very satisfied with it and I hope I'm not tempting fate by writing a good review for it for it to then let me down. But for now it's great for the money especially with Amazon's offer.
Incidentally this very same machine is also sold under a different name for a lot more money on some other sites.
The machine comes with a little jug to fill the boiler with and to froth the milk in as well as a measuring spoon.
The only downside to the machine is the capacity of the boiler due to the smallness of the whole unit therefore what I find I need to do is froth the milk with the machine first for two cups worth then refill the boiler for the coffee or vice versa not a problem if you do not want the milk frothed of course.
So far I have just used fresh beans from starbucks that I use a bean grinder with.
Great little unit.
Tasty Coffee, tasty design.
I've been quite impressed by the EC11, the mini-robot styling is a departure from just about every other coffee machine out there, the size (it takes only a kettle-ish amount of counter top) as mentioned is a double edged sword, if there are more than two cappuccino fiends in the house, forget it, but for one or two people it is a good compromise to giving over an entire surface to a heaving, steaming, sighing, brute of a bean-steamer and you soon come up with your own workaround for its small boiler.
It feels quite sturdy and thoughtfully designed, everything fits nicely, noslip base, nice and quiet (unlike a *cough* Gaggia on all the above). The frother is powerful enough to easily whip up long lasting foam. It would have been nice to see a more expensive finish on the actual chamber plastics, oh for a chromed version, but all in all a great machine for the price and a bit of a looker to boot.
PROS:
Small Dimensions
Fast Boiler Heat up
Quiet
Easily mastered
Good Steam pressure for frothing
CONS:
Capacity
Not as good as I thought
I originally posted a review back in July 2008, giving this machine five stars and glowing praise. Now, ten months on, I'm stuck with a milk frother which sprays steam and water to such an extent I'm going to have to consign the machine to the bin. This is a terrible shame - great design, great results initially, but it really should last more than ten months! Someone else refers to the frother problem, so beware.
