When the world-famous shoe designer Manolo Blahnik walked into his surprise birthday party and saw the cake that was waiting for him - a Manolo stiletto perched alluringly next to a tissue-filled shoebox - it was his turn to ogle someone else's talent. The cake, created by Elisa Strauss of Confetti Cakes in New York City, was a sensation. This unique book contains projects for every skill level, from gorgeous, sugar-dusted heart cookies to delightful billiard-ball cupcakes, to sculpted cakes in the shape of wine bottles and Chinese takeout boxes, to the extravagantly beautiful, three-tiered embroidery cake showcased on Sex and the City. With delicious recipes, stunning projects for every occasion, suggestions for time-saving shortcuts, and hot tips for fabulous results, all illustrated with gorgeous photographs and easy-to-follow diagrams, Confetti Cakes is a must-have for the outrageously chic baker in all of us.

Customer Reviews
Very american but interesting
This book is broken down into sections. Being American, there is a lot on cupcakes and cookies, but they do look fun if you want to give them a go. There is also a section on mini cakes and small gift cakes, but the sections on novelty and celebration cakes is smaller. The best large cakes are the one on the cover and the shoe cake, made for a designer who isnt named. I bought this book because of all the hints to New York designers, and the reference to "Sex in the City" but there isnt a lot of obvious connection. However, it is a nice book. Some of the descriptions are not easy to follow, but I put this down to products being different on this side of the Atlantic. If you are a beginner who wants a book which is easy to follow and clear, then this is probably not for you. If you want ideas and can work most things out for yourself, then you will probably enjoy browsing this book.
A real book to Inspire
This is a great book if you want ideas and inspiration or you can of course try to replicate exactly what's shown on the page. I've not been baking for long and I'm very much a beginner when it comes to sugarcraft so I found the sections teaching you techniques to be invaluable. It's all very simply laid out and there's info on tools and basic recipes for several types of cakes and cookies and also recipes for frosting and icing.
Annoyingly all the recipes are in cup form so it's not very UK friendly and I had to use a conversion chart from another book. This is a small complaint though considering what the book is really intended for which is inspiration - there are all kinds of cakes including an amazing cake that looks like a bag of popcorn which is quite advanced. There are large sections on cupcakes and biscuits and this is probably a good place to start if you want to start making things from the book as the projects are smaller and in most cases simpler and therefore require less patience!
Great Book for Contemporary Cakes
If you want to make a handbag cake or a stiletto sitting on a shoe box then this is the book for you. I love it.
