Manufacturer's Description
The full featured compact
Believing that affordability should never mean a compromise on quality, Fujifilm have introduced the new FinePix J50, a compact digital camera that stays true to this philosophy. Featuring a Fujinon 5x optical zoom, an 8.2 megapixel resolution, ISO 800 light sensitivity as well as QVGA movie recording capability, which is great if you don't have your video camera to hand.

It's also incredibly easy to use, with an intuitive icon-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and many features accessible via a mode dial.  The FinePix J50 is perfect for families who want a reliable, take-anywhere camera and is suitable for kids and parents alike.

The carry anywhere camera with an impressive 5x Optical zoom
The camera's 5x Optical zoom has been especially developed by Fujinon, and delivers an expanded range of picture-taking options, letting you zoom in for dramatic close-ups, even when shooting from far away.

Despite the larger zoom and screen the FinePix J50's compact design is remarkably svelte, at only 23mm thick.  Available in a choice of either Matt Black or Brushed Silver, the slim, stylish FinePix J50 slips effortlessly into your purse or pocket and goes everywhere with ease.

Easy to operate mode dial and GUI system
Control is at your fingertips, as the selection of convenient functions is made easy with the FinePix J50's Mode Dial. This dial enables you to access to some of the most popular settings on the camera such as Auto, Anti-blur and movie recording via the intuitive GUI, (Graphical User Interface).

Fujifilm's recently redesigned GUI makes navigating menu options easier than ever before. The system uses an icon-based menu, with accompanying explanations that pop up on the LCD as a new setting is selected.

The button layout has been designed so that the camera body remains uncluttered and can be operated easily with one hand. All-in-all, this helpful interface takes much of the guesswork out of digital camera operation, and with less to worry about, you'll have more fun with your picture taking!

High resolution 2.7-inch LCD screen
The FinePix J50 features a large high-resolution 2.7-inch, 235,000 pixel LCD screen, which has a reinforced glass coating for scratch-free durability. In addition, the LCD screen is coated with anti-glare surface to increase visibility when framing or reviewing images in bright sunlight, which means that sharing your images with others is easier than ever before.

Convenient xD and SD compatibility
The FinePix J50 features an xD/SD compatible slot, allowing the use of either xD Picture Card, SD or SDHC media to store and transfer your photos.

This will give you the flexibility to buy the card you want, use cards from previous cameras, or choose the media that fits with your other desktop devices like laptops, PDAs or card readers.

Internal memory
The FinePix J50 makes it possible for you to get that picture even if your memory card is full. The 12MB internal memory built into this compact ensures that you will never have to miss that special shot.

Think of it as your internal insurance policy for photo opportunities. With that said, the main storage for images on the FinePix J50 should be an additional xD card, which will allow you to accommodate almost as many images as you like.

A low light marvel
Photos taken in low light are the ones that are most likely to produce disappointing results. Limited flash range and direct light can mean the foreground is harshly lit and the background lost all together. If the flash isn't used at all, the image can suffer from digital interference called 'noise' as the sensor struggles to pick up all of the detail in the scene. Moving images can be blurred as the camera keeps the shutter open for longer to allow as much light in as possible.

So Fujifilm has put 70 years of experience in imaging into fine-tuning the light sensitivity and flash systems of its cameras. You wouldn’t normally expect a camera placed at such an affordable price point to feature such technology but Fujifilm have and we can assure you, it does work to help you take better pictures.

Anti blur
The camera's Anti-blur system increases its ISO setting and associated shutter speed, so that the shutter can open and close much more quickly, thereby freezing moving action without blur.

When a still image isn't sufficient, the movie mode captures movie clips with sound that are limited in length only by the size of memory card used.

Ease of use.
The camera is preset with an extensive selection of scene modes which make it ready to shoot anything from days at the beach to party portraits in an instant. There's even a 'Baby' mode to ensure those all important pictures of baby's first years look spot-on, with skin tones faithfully reproduced.

Simply select a Scene Position that suits your situation and the FinePix J50 automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed, exposure and white balance to ensure that you get the most of your photography; more stunning pictures, less hassle.

Create your own 'Slideshow'.
The FinePix J50 features a multitude of options for sharing images once they've been taken, enabling you to share your precious moments again and again with Fujifilm’s new in-camera ‘Slideshow’ function, which displays images one-by-one.

    Great buy5
Bought this from another source, initially I was going to buy the Canon Ixus 80, which I bought for my wife last week! After a discussion with a friend who knows about the lens went for this. Great little camera & simple to use. Still exploring all the possible functions but so far so good. Love the quality of the colour & the zooming capability is excellent with amazing clarity.

    Fujifilm FinePix Digital Camera4
I bought this to replace a broken Pentax Digital Camera. This is my 4th Digital Camera, my 1st was a Fujifilm bought in January 2002. My printer is a 5700x 1400 so going for one over the 8.2mp would be a waste of money. The features are there for one to experiment but I just chose the most appropriate setting and let the camera do the finer things.I prefer the Fuji's battery over the AAA's my Samsung uses,it lasts much longer.I'm glad I've gone back to Fujifilm.

    Not Fujifilm's best effort1
Bought this for my daughter at Christmas and, although feature packed and superficially a nice camera, I wouldn't recommend it.

Within hours of its first use the mode selector dial had mal-functioned and was either not changing mode or giving a completely different one to that selected.

I've had Fujifilm cameras for years and always found them reliable and robust so this came as something of a surprise. Closer inspection (and something I missed when reviewing it before purchase) shows that the selector dial actually overhangs the side of the camera and it may be this that makes it vulnerable.

Had to return it for refund (Amazon service in this respect is excellent - the 1 star is for the camera, not for Amazon). Replaced with another Fujifilm camera - a J120 exclusive to Comet (but very similar to the J150 available from Amazon) - which is excellent and has had no problems.
