It charges... just...
All chargers are not created equal... yes sure, this one charges batteries but the ones supplied with it are very low power. If you subsequently buy higher power batteries and want it to charge them then expect them not to be charged to full capacity as it's based on a timer rather than a microprocessor or electronic charge control system.
Personal opinion, better going for a non-timer based charger with charge control... price-wise they're much the same and well worth it for the future flexibility...
Slow but small
I bought this charger for charging some AA and AAA batteries that I use for my long distance two-way radios. They need powerful batteries and use them up quickly. This is therefore a very good product for such needs. The only problem is that it takes a long time to charge (6+ hours) , on the other hand it does automatically switch off so if this does not bother you about how long it takes, it is a good machine. The price on Amazon.co.uk is very good and it also comes with four free batteries (however only 900mh).
cheap but good
The charger itself is very good, the timer means you don't have to worry about your house burning down if you forget to unplug it plus the green charged light means that you know exactly when it's finished. Only complaint is that the time taken to charge seems to be slightly longer than the charge times quoted (5hrs for Ni-MH AA / AAA), although that could be my bad time keeping. Despite this the charger is still relatively quick.
I only bought this because I recently got a digital camera which burns batteries, and I didn't really need a 'universal' charger as I never use C and D cells but the AAA, AA and PP3's all charge quickly and safely. Plus the one I got had an extra two AA's, 6 batteries and a charger for £10, bargain!
