Product Description

Nikon's lens AF-S VR 105 mm f/2.8G IF-ED offers vibrating reduction advantages (VR)  to the macrophotography. Its high resolution and its excellent optical performances are both designed for digital and silver SLRs 24x36, which makes this a very interesting and nifty device if you posess both kinds. This lens integrates Nikon's second generation vibration reduction system (VR II), facilitating the shooting without tripod. You also have the possibility of a 4 times slower closing time than with standard lenses without VR in order to obtain stable pictures. The SWM motor (Silent Wave Motor) and the internal focus (IF) guarantee a silent focussing and the change from autofocus to manual one can be done instantaneously. A circular diaphragm with 9 lamellas offers an even more natural restitution of the un-focussed elements. The optical performances will benefit of the advantages of a ED (Extra low Dispersion) lens out of glass, diminishing the chromatic aberrations, as well as the nanocrystal treatment reducing the parasite images. With the AF-S VR 105 mm f/2.8G IF-ED, your pictures will be clear and very detailed.

Manufacturer's Description
The AF-S VR 105 f/2.8G IF-ED brings the benefits of vibration reduction (VR) to the domain of Macro photography. It offers high-resolution, high-optical performance for both digital and 35mm film format SLR cameras. This lens incorporates Nikon's second-generation vibration reduction system (VR II) that allows flexible hand-held shooting by stabilizing the image to the equivalent stability of a shutter speed that is 4 stops faster when compared with a conventional lens (as determined by Nikon performance test). The SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and IF (Internal Focusing) ensure quiet autofocusing with quick and convenient switching between autofocus and manual operation. Optical performance is enhanced by an ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element that minimizes chromatic aberration, and Nano Crystal Coat which drastically reduces flare, enabling finely defined, clear images.

This lens is absolutely stunning. I use this for portraiture work all the time and the results are incredibly sharp. In fact they are so so sharp Warburtons could use it for slicing bread!!l

Although it has macro capability I have not used this apart from checking that it doeswork. And I don't use the VR either but have tested it and it works brilliantly.

I have not had any problems with hunting/chasing with the focusing - its probably the way the previous reviewer has his focus points set in his camera. I use it on a D2H, D2X and a Fuji S5 Pro and it works great.

Prime lenses are not for everyone but the results you get are of a much higher quality than zooms but zooms give flexibility. The choice is yours but I would go for quality over flexibility every time.

And this lens is quality. Period.

perfect lens - a prime5
great macro lens, and great general purpose lens. I absolutely don't have the chasing the first reviewer complained of. Extraoradinarily sharp. You'll still love this one in 20 years on your D2001 or something.

This lens is a bit pricey for what it does but to be honest it does it well. Very sharp pictures and its really well made. If your into Macro Photography (dont forget this will take good portraits) and can blow £600.00 without worry then get it. I've only had this for a week and find the focus a pain as it hunts a lot, struggling to find the object your trying to photo (I could be doing something wrong). The VR is very good, it actually works! Overall I'm pleased with it but I should have waited for it to come down in price.
