Very good, but coud be even better for the money...
The Legria HF-S100 is at the upper end of the "consumer/prosumer" camcorder price bracket, so we should expect it to be good. It is - the quality of both video and stills is very high, helped by a decent lens and the 8MP CMOS sensor. Just two things are lacking. The first is an optical or electronic viewfinder which should be where the main control dial is located. The LCD screen is quite good but sometimes difficult to see in strong light. The second is a wider angle at minimum zoom, to give a greater field of view. The widest angle is equivalent to about 38mm on an SLR camera, which really isn't very wide at all. You can buy a W/A adapter that screws onto the front of the camera, but this adds to cost, weight and size, and also degrades the image quality. Overall, however, this is a very good camcorder with a host of features and capable of high quality results - better than the Legria HF200 which I also have.

A lot better than you'd think!
Bought this camera about two weeks ago from Amazon and the more I use it the more it grows on me. Reading some reviews on this camcorder before I bought it, said it was a consumer/prosumer camcorder which I agree, it is. Manual controls are good but not brilliant, but for the price you can't do any better. Image quality is very good in HD, with the ability to shoot 25PF (although not true progressive) and 50i. By far the best 'small' camcorder on the market. Thoroughly recommended.

Good picture quality, but...
It's a good camcorder with sharp video , but under low light conditions (night shots) it shows a lot of grain. It lacks 5.1 ac3 sound, but it's ok for me. Althought it's a 1080 camera, you shouldn't expect for Blu ray quality, it hasn't it.
