Manufacturer's Description

PIXMA iP3600
Canon's new addition to its PIXMA range of photo printers with the arrival of the PIXMA iP3600. Having a contemporary design the iP3600 is aimed at users looking for exceptional print quality with increased functionality. The PIXMA iP3600 offers 9600x2400dpi resolution and utilise Canon’s 1pl FINE print heads for the highest quality images and text documents. The PIXMA iP3600 supports Canon’s new ChromaLife100+ system, which combines the FINE print head, the new dye-based inks and genuine Canon photo papers to create longer-lasting prints.

The PIXMA iP3600 benefits from five Single Inks. These provide superb colour reproduction and, as only the ink tank that has run out requires replacing, they offer great efficiency.

This mid-range Photo and Document Printer is all about value for money. Get quality prints at high speed plus the Single Ink system: only replace the empty ink tank, minimising both ink and money wastage.

PIXMA iP3600 Highlights

1pl Technology

Picolitre size

The size of the ink droplets can vary, and it is this that you quite often see quoted in printer specifications as a Pico litre rating (pl). The Smaller the nozzle jet, the tinier the ink drop, so the more detailed the print image will be.

5 Single Inks

Ink tanks/Cartridges

To minimise ink wastage and protect the environment, Canon's Single Ink system uses transparent, individually replaceable single colour ink tanks. Each tank incorporates an LED that flashes slowly to indicate when ink is low, or rapidly when the tank is empty. To ensure hassle-free installation, the LED also indicates when a tank is incorrectly installed.

Auto Image Fix

Auto Image Fix

Not every photo is perfect; that’s why Canon introduces Auto Image Fix.  It automatically analyses your photo, and then enhances skin tones, colour contrasts and saturations.  Simply scan, and edit them with the easy-to-use software.  Then reprint them to share with family and friends.

ChromaLife 100+

ChromaLife 100+

ChromaLife100+ is a system that improves the beauty and permanence of printed images, realised with the combination of selected Canon inks and papers. A combination of Canon’s FINE print head, New Dye-Based Inks and New Genuine Photo Paper provides more vibrant, beautiful and longer-lasting photos.

Customer Reviews

Canon IP36005
Firstly just a word on Amazon's service. I ordered through Amazon at 14.30 and arrived at 09.30 the following day. That is very good service.

So to the printer. I have always used Epson but after my last experience with them it was time for a change. Canon came recommended by my wife's University lecturer, she is doing Graphic Design and Photography, so we needed a very good printer. It is. The 9600 * 2400 dpi is certainly visible. A doddle to set up and individual inks is a great plus and the inks seem to be reasonably priced.Runs well, no problems and very quiet.

The printer looks larger on the website than it actually is, theres no wobble when its printing, unlike some models. I would recommend this model and Canon to all who are thinking of purchasing an above average printer, with reasonable running costs.

Great machine4
I would have given this printer 5 stars but could never give any printer 5 stars at present due to the sly tricks being played by manufacturers with the size and cost of ink cartridges. Canon is just playing the same game as all the other manufacturers.

When I bought this printer there were no reviews which made it a tough choice as the ip4600 has loads of good reviews. Received the printer on Tuesday after ordering it on Friday so excellent service by both Amazon and indigostarfish for the USB 2.0 device cable which you need as it doesn't come with one. Both prices appeared the best on the Internet.

I have only had it a day but it looks and feels like a good piece of kit which has been well thought out. I am only looking for a printer to print black and white documents so did not need the ip4600 as this prints black and white at the same speed and at the same quality. I can confirm it was quick and easy to set up and prints good quality documents fast. The only comment would be the ink is a little watery causing the page to take a little time to dry but is nothing to worry about.

INK is the nightmare for printers. Buy a cheaper unit you will notice two sizes of ink cartridge. The smaller ml one ships with the units. So I found HP at around £30 appeared to be shipped with about 10ml of ink and the Canon ip2600 appeared to be shipped with about 20ml of ink in total. If so it's a sly trick and completely unacceptable environmentally. This ships with around 55ml of ink. Considering replacement ink for the HP and ip2600 is about £30 which will give around an extra 28ml you can see it is cheaper to buy the ip3600 as all end up costing you about £60 for a printer and around 55ml of ink. Effectively you are paying £14 for the printer and getting £40 worth of ink. That is scary in terms of production costs!

The older ip3500 had up to around 36% bigger ink cartridges. I do not appreciate this kind of engineering in terms of its unnecessary cumulative effects on the environment.

However, of the current printer offerings I recommend this machine as it is small enough for the home office, is quiet and fast at printing documents and is relatively cheap to run considering most ink is often dearer per ml than the most expensive champagne in the world! If it does suffer with the reported problems with the ink cartridges then as long as I have used up the ink I have only lost £15 so its a win win no worries purchase.

As a footnote I would have bought the MP610 as it has the old size cartridges and offers scanning and copying but its the size of a suitcase whilst this is the size of a bread bin.

Hope it helps.

Strong recommendation4
Let me start by saying that, compared to some Reviewers here, I am not that technoloigically advanced - we have a home PC and a general day-to-day need to print off "standard size" Family photos (we take quite a lot!). Having had a digital camera for approx 4 years and having seen our way through 3 (three) Epson printers, I decided to look for an alternative make/brand.

Based upon the price and some pretty decent reviews I settled on the iP3600 - a wise decision! I have had it now for 3 months and strongly recommend it.

It is very easy to "load" onto the PC (even I could do it) and gives you many options in terms of how you want your photos printed (size of photo etc.), which was different to the old Epson I had whereby I inserted the digital camera's SD Memory card into the printer and I never went anywhere near the PC with the Epson (perhaps I could have, but it's too late now).

I guess some buyers could always argue that the iP3600 could be:
a) quieter (but then I would personally not consider it excessively noisey);
b) should come with a USB cable (but then again they are fairly cheap to buy);
c) uses too many ink cartridges (but then I do print quite a large number of photos); and
d) that ink cartridges could be cheaper (but that is a complaint in general on all home printers, I find - TIP: try to buy spare inks as soon as you get the printer as they always seem to run out at the worst possible moment, also go to the Canon UK website to buy probably the best value cartridges),

but none of the above would stop me from giving it a strong recommednation.
