This emotionally honest account of one woman's experience of unexplained infertility will strike an emotional cord with the one in six couples that experience fertility problems. The book will help to promote discussion between partners who are finding it difficult to name their feelings surrounding their own infertility. It will also prove invaluable for the friends, family, doctors and therapists of those couples; people who may have no idea of the depth and complexity of emotions surrounding the issue. Pink for a Girl is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, always real.

From the Author
Why did I write my book – Pink for a Girl? My book started life as a diary: Somewhere for me to download when I felt overwhelmed by my whole experience of trying – and failing - to have a baby. Somewhere for me to try and make sense of my feelings, to try and regain some semblance of control over the unexpected direction my life was taking. Several exercise books later, I realised that my story could potentially help other women: Women who would love to have children but were experiencing problems. Women who were trying to find a way through the, often, dark and lonely maze of involuntary childlessness. Women who could do without reading another sob story about infertility that ended with ‘and imagine my delight when I realised I was pregnant.’ Threads within the book: At its most fundamental level, Pink for a Girl is a story about coming to terms with unexplained infertility. Pink for a Girl is also a story about creating your own happy ending – and realising that even though life is seldom perfect, it can still be fantastic. Customer Reviews
The first book that really tells it like it is.....
I spotted this book while surreptitiously scouring the bookshop for books on IVF...like most people who have been diagnosed with a fertility problem, I read anything I can get my hands on that deals with it. I read the book in two hours, and I found myself nodding sympathetically all the way through. There are a lot of books out there that tell you how to get pregnant, and what to do once you are, but very few that tell you how it feels when you can't. Isla McGuckin gives a no-frills, quietly honest account of her struggle to get pregnant, her battle with, and eventual acceptance of her childlessness, in a sweet and dignified manner. This book is a must for anyone who doesn't know what to say to their infertile friend, and is an inspiration to those who are struggling with their own infertility.
Exactly what I was looking for
I was eagerly awaiting this book which was recommended by a friend and I have to say,it did not dissapoint
Pink for a girl was open, honest, witty and sometimes tragically sad.
But to follow the author from first imagining starting her own family to finding out that it was never acheivable to seeing her come out of it the other end a stronger, happier, healthier woman was a lifeline for everyone experiening fertility problems.
There is no silver lining, no bouncing baby on the horizon, yet you still ended up feeling uplifted in a glass half full kind of way...definately a recommended read!
Daydream Believer
I can't say how much this book has helped me to understand and accept my feelings towards my own experience of unexplained infertility. The heartache and yearning in contrast to the often amusing and brutally honest anecdotes have proved a real tonic. It is a compelling read and should be compulsory for all members of the medical profession as well as anybody who has experience of fertility issues. I wish this book had been available five years ago, had it been, I would certainly have made a few of the medical staff who dealt with us read it! A true inspiration.
