Product Description

" Lasers is a remarkably well written book that should become the standard introductory text on laser physics." Optical & Quantum Electronic News Lasers is both a text and general reference book with an emphasis on basic laser principles and theory. It gives a complete, detailed and accurate treatment of laser physics, building only on classical models, without requiring a quantum mechanical background of the reader.

Errata list, and future plans
A plain TeX source file which can be used to print an errata list for LASERS by Siegman is available on line at . Additional errata or comments may be sent to the author at siegman@ee.stanford.edu (but please check the existing errata list first). A revised version of this text, to include changes and advances since the original 1986 edition, is planned for publication in modular form (i.e., as individual modules of 300 to 400 pages each), but it will be several more years before the first of these will appear.

Customer Reviews

A lucid, pedagogical and rigorous survey of the entire field5
I used LASERS for both of Siegman's courses at Stanford, and even now it has become well worn with use in our lasers laboratory. Both the fundamental physics and contemporary technology are rigorously covered in their essential entirety, in a well written and lucid survey of the field. Indeed, care had obviously been taken to develop the entire text into a coherent treatise starting from first principles, and the pedagogical treatment of the subject still makes the book nothing short of a joy to read. Five stars as a textbook; five as a working reference.
