Excellent first impressions
First impressions from cutting down one fifteen foot high laurel bush/tree are excellent.
It's lighter than a petrol chainsaw, and cuts through wood like butter.
The disadvantage is that you have a cable which you have keep moving so you don't cut through it!
Also it was annoying that the box comes with only enough oil to fill the reservoir to the empty level !!! I had to go and buy a litre from B&Q before I could start.
However all in all it seems to have been a good purchase at a competitive price.
Outstanding machine, superb performance
I have only occasional use for a chainsaw around the home, so when my ancient Black & Decker saw packed up I looked around for the cheapest possible. My choice was unavailable at the time so I paid the extra for this, and grumbled. How wrong I was!
This machine is absolutely superb! It has a powerful motor and the automatic chain tensioning system, automatic lubrication, and steel tines to grip the work, make it very convenient in use. I was amazed at how it sliced through wood in seconds and it soon made short work of reducing several tree trunks into a pile of logs. In use, the machine is remarkably well balanced, so while not exactly light, you are not really aware of having to heave it around. The rapid kickback brake is very well designed; effective and little trouble to turn off.
Of course, for the convenience of being electric you are tied to a cable, so it lacks the flexibility of a petrol job, but I assume you will have already made that choice. Bosch do make a slightly cheaper version, but that lacks the automatic chain tensioning; anything which saves you having to fiddle with the machine during or after use is well worth the extra to my mind.
Outstanding machine, not the cheapest, but well worth the money.
Great value and easier to use than traditional chainsaw brands
I bought two previous electric chainsaws that blew motors after 2 years of light work. One was a Husqvarna (£200ish) and than a Jonsered (£180ish). Both were good brands, but heavy and hard to use if you have arthritis in your hands-which I do.
After both blew, I decided to just buy a cheap chainsaw as it couldn't be any worse. In fact this is better than both for just cutting logs for the woodburner. It has a 2 year warranty, is far cheaper and is much easier to use. Why? The body is lighter, has a boxy shape that sits better in the hand. The deadmans handle where you have to hold the on/off and lockoff switches simultaneously is a lot lighter to do when you are using the saw for a while. Also has much longer cable (the Jonsered had half a metre!)If it packs up within 2 years, I have the warranty, if after that, I am still ahead compared to the more expensive traditional chainsaw brands.
