Manufacturer's Description
Most deciduous trees are pruned when their growth is dormant, in late Autumn or early Winter or Spring. The extending handles lock into place over six possible locations. To operate, place the branch in the jaws and close the handles once without forcing them. Once you have gone as far as you can, release the handles to allow the ratchet to locate and repeat the operation until the job is done.

Expensive but effective
I have a great deal of lopping to do in an overgrown garden and I thought that the ratchet and extending arms would be useful I also hoped that price would equal quality.
It is certainly good and cuts take little effort, quite a lot less than the lopper it replaces. The arms extend easily and it is not too heavy. I'm not certain about the ratchet mechanism since it has not been needed on the branches I have cut so far (up to about an inch) but I see no reason why it should not work well. The handles are comfortable and it looks as if it is a good quality tool
Possibly my needs could have been satisfied with something cheaper but I am happy with this and I suspect it will do everything anyone could reasonably ask of it.
Very good buy, work well and should last
When buying an item with a celebrity endorsement, you sometimes pay a premium for the name. In this case you really are getting a good product.
These loppers have a ratchet mechanism, meaning you can keep cutting through a thick branch at the same point. The extending handles have 6 locking positions, which I find makes it comfortable in a wide range of applications, and overall the loppers seem remarkably well balanced. They made short work of trimming a hedge which had been left to its own devices for too long.
It is possible to buy cheaper loppers, tempting if you only have one immediate job in hand. But it is worth taking the long view with garden tools; you shouldn't have to buy again for a long time. These should prove an excellent buy.
Excellent Tool
I have just had to take over an acre of wooded garden. I have used this tool on quite formidable branches with every satisfaction. With simple care and petience it works wonders. Thoroughly recommended.
