worth adding to your collection
As on board footage seems so rare on DVD this one is a gem. It is on board footage and nothing else. It has some flaws so be warned. eg: The wind noise almost drowns out other noises on a couple of circuits. The view is always compromised by the left wiper! The good bits make it worthwhile. eg: brands, nurburgring, spa and the sense of outright speed at le mans is jaw dropping. I don't think i'd fancy paying full price however. The marketplace is the best bet for this one.
Some excellent experiences, however!
Derek Bell is truly one of the greatest living sports car drivers. His lap of the old Nurenburg Ring is excellent, also the lap of Le Mans. In both these laps you can hear the engine working, which helps immesurably to capture as full an experience as possible without smell. The rest of the DVD however, is mediocre by comparison. Much of it is absolutely ruined by a horrible sound track which totally drowns the engine sounds and thereby robs one of anything like a satisfying experience. If you're a full-on petrol head you will be sadly dissappointed!
Watch the record lap of the old Nurenburg Ring by a Radical SR8 on UTube instead. That is a real thrill!
Ultimate Speed Trip
I purchased this dvd direct from Duke in Febuary 05 and it certainly doesnot disappoint. It is so good it made me purchase a Playstation 2 so that I could access the Nurbergring course on the annoyingly difficlt Gran Tourismo 4 disc.I even placed an order with Diecast Legends for their yet to be released collectors quality model of the 1982 winning Porche 956T that is shown in the DVD.Derek Bell setting the fifth fastest lap of the Nerbegring in a time of 6min 37sec seems quite impressive.
The mind blowing course record for the 13.1mile long Nerbergring is 6min 11 set by the late Stephan Bellof in his warmup qualifying lap of the 1983
1000k race.Only one street legal road car has broken the 7 minute barrier and that is the Radical SR8 and many highly tuned race cars have tried over the years. This makes Bells 6min 37 that more impressive because he had a very expensive camera mounted next to him in the car so really he couldnot drive flat out.
The highlite has to be Bell driving down the famous Muslanne straight at nearly 240mph.Words cannot portray how fast the scenery flashes bye,it has to be seen to be believed.Another impressive moment is when Bell leaves the pit lane at Le Man for his warm up lap.The acceleration from standstill to near race speed is breathtaking.
Not quite so dramatic is the sequence at the racetrack at Mount Fugi in Japan.Acceleration passing other cars is impressive and clearly shows how powerfull the Porche was. This is not a dvd that you whatch once and put down and forget about it.You return to it again and again and appriciate how good the five times Le Man winner Derek Bell is at driving fast
.If you are looking for a dvd to enjoy and visualise what true speed is really like order a copy of this excellent disc either direct from Duke or from any other reputal source I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH YOUR PURCHASE.
