Steve Wright selects the weirdest, most fascinating and entertaining trivia from around the world, as read out on his hit Radio 2 show, Steve Wright in the Afternoon. Also features commentary and anecdotes, plus photos and illustrations. Steve Wright is one of the top names in broadcasting on Radio today. He has been a popular and enduring fixture of BBC's flagship stations for more than 20 years, presenting Radio 1's Breakfast Show before moving to Radio 2, where he now hosts Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs -- the most listened to show on radio -- and Steve Wright in the Afternoon, to which almost a third of the listening public tune in. Both shows are heard around the world. Steve has also presented BBC television shows during the prestigious Saturday evening slot, and has won the Radio Personality of the Year award. One of the most popular features of Steve Wright in the Afternoon is Factoids, a hilarious, fascinating and informative insight into the world of strange and bizarre trivia from around the globe. No subject is off-limits and even the most boring of categories will provide an amazing fact. Steve Wright's Book of Factoids will bring together the very best of these in one book, plus Steve will provide explanations, commentary and anecdotes to fully support and enhance this entertaining collection of hundreds of fun facts. About the Author
Born in Greenwich in 1954, Steve Wright held a number of jobs before joining Radio Luxembourg in the 1970s. He famously moved to Radio 1's daytime slot with his Steve Wright in the Afternoon show and revolutionised radio by introducing the "zoo" format to the UK. Steve joined Radio 2 in 1996 to present two shows -- Sunday Love Songs, and his Afternoon show, which are now two of the most widely listened to shows on radio. Steve also writes and presents Top of the Pops 2 on BBC 2.

Even Tim Smith hates this book
This is the literary equivalent of a plunging a bread knife into your own groin. If you enjoy reading endless lists of doubtful "facts" please crack on. However be warned that your family and friends may be forced to take out a contract on you as you read out yet another eyeball-implodingly boring fact from this book of unmitigated faecal slurry.
I'd buy a dictionary and read that instead, at least you'll be learning something useful.
All the fun of the show - but better!
I must admit, I'm a big fan of the Steve Wright in the Afternoon radio show so I was delighted to discover this book in my local shop. I love trivia and I love Steve's deadpan gags that follow many of the factoids that they read out on the show and this book delivers on both counts!
This book has hundreds of amazing and funny facts, plus loads of great photos and one-liners from Steve. Many of the factoids are really weird, things you never knew you never knew, and there are lots of examples that you'll want to share with your friends - it's an ideal book for taking down the pub! Half the book covers just about every subject you can think of but there are also special sections, ranging from Celebs to Sex to Live Aid/8 to Food - there's even sections on ASBOs and Chavs!
This is the kind of book that everyone will have fun with and I fully agree with the blurb that it will make the perfect gift for Christmas. Recommended!
The literary equivalent of poo on your shoe
I got this as a present a while back and hated it. The reason I am writing this review now is that I have recently given it to a cancer charity shop I support (along, I should add before you judge me harshly, with some actually good stuff).
Factoids on the radio are fun throwaway things, but reading a book full of them is painful. You learn nothing, as there is no background explanation, and I am sure that several of them are urban myths, ridiculously oversimplified or simply plain untrue. I won't say which as I no longer own the book and can't make exact quotes here.
This must have been such an easy book to write, but it's far too easy to read and is best suited for people with unquestioning minds who are happy not to know more than a one liner about anything. Books like this make me despair.
