After the 11th September attack on the US Trade Center, Yasmin finds that work colleagues are prejudiced against her and finds herself becoming uncomfortable both at home and at work. Anti-terrorist police raid her and her family's homes and arrest her husband because of phone calls he made to Pakistan to a teacher cousin who works in a school partly-funded by a separatist movement. Knowing her husband is innocent of any terrorist links she holds back on divorcing him as she intended and tries her best to get him released. Meanwhile, resentful of his treatment by the police and stirred up by a visiting extremist her drug-dealing younger brother goes off to fight for the Palestinians.
