Must have book for beginers5
If you are starting a cold (or temperate water) aquarium then this the book for you. Most people will think cold water=gold fish=easy and they will be wrong. Basics of aquarium (water chemistry, fish biology) plus two possible aquarium designs and the most common cold water aquarium fish available are included in this book. Really all you need if you are a beginner (or if you want to refresh your memory) is in there. The author, Nick Fletcher is a former PFK editor, now specialized in Koi and he knows his stuff inside out. In short, if you want to start a GF aquarium (not a criminal bowl) buy this book, read it from start to finish and you will be ready.... you might even want to keep other types of cold water fish.

Excellent book for the beginner. Thorough and illustrative.5
A book which everybody embarking on the hobby should have.

There are many sources of information available to the new aquarist today but many are contradicting (some of the leaflets which are freely distributed in pet shops spring to mind!). However, this is a guide that aquarists all over the world would agree with. Having been involved in the hobby for over 20 years and having participated in several aquarist newsgroups, I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a successful start.

A book that new aquarists would turn to over and over again, and experienced aquarists could use as a reference.

handy for beginners5
I bought this after I had completed my first cold water aquarium and wanted some good reference guides to help me tend to my new fish.

As an introduction this book is great, it's layout is very user friendly, well illustrated and importantly it avoids being overly technical. There are many good ideas contained within the book for creating a nice, asthetically pleasing environment for your new fish.

This book will not tell you everything you need to know about caring for your fish however, is an extremelly good starting point and an especially good purchace should you be considering beginning an aquarium.
