Product Description

As the whole "green" subject becomes more and more complex - combining environmental, ethical and organic issues, some of which can be conflicting - it's getting progressively harder to work out how to make your wedding eco-friendly without ending up with a glorified mudbath. Yet, quite rightly, many couples now want their weddings designed to help keep our planet, environment, agriculture and employment ethics as healthy as possible ...without compromising on style, glamour, quality and, of course, fun. A tall order? Not now, with "How to Get Married in Green." In this book, Suzan St Maur (also author of "Wedding Speeches For Women" and "The A to Z of Wedding Worries and how to put them right") neatly unravels the increasingly tangled web of green issues relating to weddings; so that you can: choose from a range of options depending on how far you want to pursue your green approach; see how these options work across all key areas of your wedding; get some clever, effective ideas on transport, decorations, clothes, catering, entertainment and more; learn how to make those ideas work for you with style and panache; understand just what an appreciable difference these measures will make to our planet and wellbeing; and, enjoy your wedding (and its planning) even more, because you know you're making a difference.

Customer Reviews

Birdseed for confetti!4
Friendly and down to earth, this book is refreshingly full of common sense in an industry otherwise built around hype.

It's like having a relaxed, helpful aunt looking over your shoulder when planning what is, for most women, a pretty a big project.

A lot of Suzan St Maur's green suggestions are also nicer or easier than the conventional way - a dress made mby a local dressmaker just for you is more flattering, cheaper and loads more fun than off the rack. And it's less hassle to send out one invitation with all the information your guests will need than to fuss about with 10 different bits of paper. And using birdseed for confetti is probably the best wedding ideas I've ever heard of!

From sourcing the gemstones for your engagement ring to organic wine on the tables Suzan St Maur has really gone through the whole wedding project from start to finish.

Don't even think of getting married without reading this book!5
Until I was given a copy of Suzan St. Maur's How to Get Married in Green, I'd never really thought about the true cost of a wedding. The money, yes - but not the ecological and political implications for the planet. Everything from diamond mining for engagement rings, to bucket shop stag and hen parties, to imported cut flowers have a wider impact - and one which personally I'd rather not have on my conscience.

Suzan St. Maur tackles each and every one of these issues methodically and in a readable enjoyable way. Not only does she explain the wider implications of all the decisions you have to make when planning a wedding, she also suggests fabulous alternatives which are eco-friendly, and much more fun than the traditional methods.

Why would I ever think of jetting off for a drunken hen party, now I've realised that the alternatives could include a residential falconry course, frisbee disc golf or a murder mystery weekend? Why would I want hot-house grown or imported flowers, now that I know what fabulous bouquets and decorations can be created with locally grown seasonal blooms?

Best of all, the author is dedicated not only to making my wedding eco-friendly and brimming with style - she's also got her eye firmly on the overall budget. Fun, green, locally sourced solutions can actually be a lot cheaper than the traditional trimmings. Buying this book has already saved me hundreds of times its cover price... how's that for a recommendation?

A great book - an essential purchase for any bride-to-be!5
I came across this one following a recommendation, and I'm very glad that I did! It really does cover everything that you need to take into account when you're planning a wedding.

Suze's writing style is great so she manages to impart huge amounts of detailed information in a way which is painless for the reader - the layout of the book is good too. In particular I liked the fact that Suze is obviously a normal person, rather than an extreme eco-warrier, and her advise is down-to-earth and easy to follow.

If you want to organise a lovely wedding (or party) and make it more environmentally friendly, then get this book.
